The Nintendo Gamecube!

Recommended Posts

It had great power like the Xbox. I would take Metroid Prime graphics over Halo any day. The PS2 was no slouch either with the amazing God of War. The problem with the PS2? Really hard to program for as I have read. If you really put a lot of work into a game (like the God of War devs did) then you can see some really good stuff on the PS2. Why waste so much time on that thing though if you can do an easier Xbox game? Back then Microsoft was throwing money around to devs to get them on board the Xbox. It seemed they all flocked to Sony and Microsoft. Sony because of the install base and Microsoft because of $$$

I think it lost 3rd party support too quckly and contrary to what anyone thinks. It's the Xbox and NOT the PS2 which hurt Nintendo. It could have been the PS2 and Gamecube on the market if Microsoft hadn't stepped in and stole the crowd.

:P

It's tough to find replacement GCN controllers - even used, they are expensive and hard to locate around here.

Family Dollar stores in my area carry the white GCN controllers for $10 a piece. PS2 and Xbox Dukes for $10 a piece too.

Five-Below has knock-off Game Cube controllers for $5 as well. I picked one up last week, just because I didn't have a second pad, and to see how bad it is. Still haven't brought myself to try it out yet though! The analogs actually feel pretty good in the hands, as do the triggers--but the buttons are stiff and the d-pad feels terrible, like the ones you get with various clone NES/SNES systems. :P

I've been meaning to stop at Five Below and now I have my incentive. Never hurts to have some extra controllers, even if they aren't the best. I just purchased Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2 @Gamestop for less than $10 total. I'd like to be able to play it with my girls, but right now just not enough controllers.

I like my GameCube and still have it hooked up. Even though I have a Wii, I prefer to play GC games on my GC. It just doesn't feel right otherwise. The controllers are comfortable and I like the overall look of the console. Although it might not be as powerful as an Xbox or PS2 (and some will argue that), it does graphics just fine and has many good games.

I think the handle is useless, however. I set it up and then it doesn't really move. It's not like I'm carrying it around like a lunchbox. But this isn't something that is a negative against the system, just don't find it necessary.

My current GameCube is black, but my first one was Purple. It met an untimely fate when lightning struck my apartment complex. Although my TV survived, the GameCube, my stereo, and my air conditioner were all fried.

I have not yet seen a "Five-Below", but there are Family Dollar stores around. I'll check it out. But I fear they are probably crappy 3rd party controllers.

For the price you are paying, they will be. It's doubtful you will find official brand-new Nintendo controllers at a place like that in the wild these days. :(
