fdurso224 #1 Posted May 1, 2012 Hi guys, Like the Super Game Boy & Game Boy Player, will Nintendo ever be doing anything to play DS or 3DS game on the home console for the Wii or Wii-U? Anthony....
OldSchoolRetroGamer #2 Posted May 1, 2012 I would doubt anything for the Wii but who knows maybe for Wii-U........
FireStar #3 Posted May 1, 2012 Nintendo would probably try to get people to buy a 3DS still, so I'd imagine IF nintendo decides to make a DS player, it would either be a plain DS or 3DS one with some functionality removed (like the Super Gameboy not having a link port). The Gameboy Player may have not been gimped, but the Gamecube wasn't exactly selling like hotcakes. Maybe we'll get a 3DS player if it has more momentum than the WiiU. Austin #4 Posted May 1, 2012 A DS player would be nice, but without having some sort of touch interface controller to substitute the bottom screen, it won't happen unless you want to render a nice chunk of the library relatively useless (or much more annoying to play). Atariboy #5 Posted May 2, 2012 The WiiU controller has a touch screen.
Austin #6 Posted May 2, 2012 The WiiU controller has a touch screen. Yep. Basically, we can hope, but I don't think it is going to happen. Would be nice though. In the meantime, if you have a bad-ass computer, you can do DS emulation. Tried it on my rig actually--it didn't work out ideally enough though. It was pretty choppy. Atariboy #7 Posted May 2, 2012 Same here, I don't think it will happen. You'd lose the 3D benefits, many games rely on primarily looking at the touch screen (Thus, little is gained playing on a tv), and many games rely on using both screens simultaneously. I don't see a setup like this happening when it wouldn't be of much use for a significant portion of the software libraries of the DS and 3DS. Still, count me in if they were to release a 3DS Player for the Wii U. Many of the games I enjoy the best on both platforms barely even utilize the touch screen. Rex Dart #8 Posted May 3, 2012 Still, count me in if they were to release a 3DS Player for the Wii U. Many of the games I enjoy the best on both platforms barely even utilize the touch screen. Me too. And the ones that do use a touch screen, they just use it as an analog input device... you don't need to look at it.
