Space Rocks (2600)

SpiceWare

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping for December.

Ouch. If that's a real potential then I guess instead of ordering the Space Rocks cartridge to recognize/encourage/support Mr. Spice's efforts, I should just send him what would be his cut and keep playing the binary on my Harmony. :ponder:

Or was that the for-my-own-sake-I-hope-it-happens-in-time-to-sell-my-game-by-Christmas date? :)

That was the gee-it'd-sure-be-nice-if-we-could-get-the-holiday-themed-game-available-for-sale-while-there-was-actually-snow-on-the-ground-this-time-after-having-been-delayed-two-years-in-a-row-by-Melody-shortages date.

Ah. I suppose that does help sales (and reduce frustration/disappointment) just a tad.

I know I have less interest in buying winter holiday themed games in July.

I think he played it on his Harmony, and I don't believe the manual is available online anywhere...

I am the one who provided the BIN to him to review on his Harmony cart. I was chatting with him on his forum and discovered that he had a Harmony and mentioned that since he gave the original Asteroids an A, he really needed to check out Space Rocks.

I figured since he gave Asteroids an A, Space Rocks would get an A+...regardless, I am glad to see his mostly positive review posted.

Thanks!

Seen my latest project?

It's far enough along to display a world you can move around in, but it's not yet playable. Once you can start blowing things up I'll create a homebrew topic for it, probably in 2-3 weeks.

Still no cart only version in the pipeline?
I really do hate the thought of having to keep one boxed game amongst my 350 cart only collection. I've traded away games just to get rid of the box.

I also really hate the thought of spending all my store credit on one game (albeit a most excellent one).

'cuz I'm cheap.

Finally got around to playing Space Rocks on my Harmony. This game is excellent! When I was playing, I was thinking "I can't believe this is running on an Atari 2600". The polish and attention to detail is impressive.

The original arcade Asteroids will always be my favorite version, but this has handily replaced the 7800 version as runner-up. The original 2600 game seems downright lame in comparison.

Man, now I want to build an Asteroids controller. :D

PS--that configuration menu is pure gold.

Sorry if this has been asked but will this work on a CC2? Or does it have the same problem Pitfall II has? If it DOES work, what is the bankswitching option I need to use?

No, the ARM chip in the Harmony / Melody is utilized as a co-processor, just like in Pitfall 2. Additionally game logic is offloaded to the ARM in Vertical Blank and Overscan.

The coprocessor routines are known as DPC+ for Space Rocks, named after the DPC in Pitfall 2.

Kinda what I figured. Oh well, I'll stick to Stella until I can get a cart. Now, if someone wants to tell me how to trigger the Easter Eggs..... :D
