schuwalker #1 Posted May 5, 2012 Down to two more CIB Sears' games left. It would've been only one, but somebody else won the boxed Submarine Commander - curse you! I finally manged to knock Demons to Diamonds off the list (damn, that was a hard find!) So now need Submarinne Commander and Sears Math Gran Prix - have a feeling this is not going to be easy feat! I should preface that I'm not really into variations so take that for what it's worth....
Atari_Bill #2 Posted May 5, 2012 So you're the person that took Demons to Diamonds away from me??? I can't tell you how long I've been looking for that!! I guess my hunt continues. I totally missed the Submarine Commander auction somehow. I have a boxed copy, but it's in pretty rough shape. BTW, if you do see an auction out there for the Math Gran Prix we'll be going head to head again.
schuwalker #3 Posted May 7, 2012 Sorry about that bidding war Bill. I was also looking for a Demons to Diamonds for a *very* long time! I regretted passing up that one that was in a lot sometime back - I told myslef that won't happen again... Did you partake in the Math Gran Prix when it was on Ebay? I *thought* my bid was a sure-fire win.... nope!!!! I'm almost done w/ Sears, so I'll be out of your hair on anymore Ebay items.....
Atari_Bill #4 Posted May 7, 2012 (edited) I'll find another Demons to Diamonds at some point. No worries. I didn't see the Math Gran Prix on Ebay so no, I wasn't involved. It's definitely a target of mine however. I'm getting close with the Sears carts. Carts only I'm pretty well set with my recent purchase of Cannon Man. I'm only 4 away from a picture label set. I just ordered several boxed titles from a couple of the online stores so that gets me ever closer. I can't say why I have the fascination with the Sears set that I do. It might be the fact that the local Sears was right next to my hometown arcade. I remember dropping all the quarters at the arcade before my ride was there so I would head next door to Sears and play the Atari/Sears Kiosk games. Deteacher #5 Posted May 8, 2012 I've always wondered if there is some Sears warehouse out in the middle of nowhere with a forgotten cache of Sears systems/games/accessories. What an awesome find that would be...
the.golden.ax #6 Posted May 8, 2012 In the basement of the Sears Tower (whatever they are calling that today) you need a special key to get down to sub level 2600.
Zwackery #7 Posted May 8, 2012 I get ill every time I think about getting distracted, forgetting to rebid, and seeing that CIB Cannon Man only go for $30. It was 2 years ago and still I feel the sting.
ntavio #8 Posted May 10, 2012 Does everyone have Cannon Man except for me?!?!! It's the last Sears title I need.
Zwackery #9 Posted May 10, 2012 Does everyone have Cannon Man except for me?!?!! It's the last Sears title I need. I also am lacking a boxed Cannon Man. It's the last Sears title for me, too.
Atari_Bill #10 Posted May 10, 2012 Does everyone have Cannon Man except for me?!?!! It's the last Sears title I need. I FINALLY just picked up the cart itself. Now the hunt for a boxed version begins.
Zwackery #11 Posted May 10, 2012 I FINALLY just picked up the cart itself. Now the hunt for a boxed version begins. It's freakin' rare. If you can find one, jump on it. In an open auction with interested bidders, I would expect it to go for $200-250 easy.
schuwalker #12 Posted May 12, 2012 I get ill every time I think about getting distracted, forgetting to rebid, and seeing that CIB Cannon Man only go for $30. It was 2 years ago and still I feel the sting. That was me that won that auction... to this day I'm still shocked what I got it for! If I still remember, I 'think' there were only four bids. Two of those were mine since I got a little scared when the auction drew closer to ending. You know whats really shcoking to me was I never knew Sears' Cannon Man even existed till the mid '80s! It's surprising because my parents' were avid and loyal shoppers to Sears... Hell, I even remember seeing a Math Gran Prix at our local Sears..... so begs the question how rare it was bitd? It seems to me I don't have to worry about some people on here since they already own a Math Gran Prix, but at the same token, if a CIB Cannon Man shows up - there's going to be a bidding frenzy! I put down a placeholder bid and was going to make a last minute high bid, but I was at a conference and distracted. I logged into my eBay account less than an hour after the auction ended and just felt sick when I saw for how little it went for. Yes, I was prepared to put down at least $200 on it. Rick Weis #14 Posted May 12, 2012 I'm glad I finished my sears boxed collection many years ago... good luck with finishing yours soon! Rick
schuwalker #15 Posted May 13, 2012 (edited) It's definitely nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel! One of titles I need (Submarine Commander), I see occasionally on Ebay - not too worried about that one. On the other hand, Math Gran Prix, I think I saw only twice on Ebay since the late '90s. Now, thats scary for my wallet! Edited May 13, 2012 by schuwalker
schuwalker #16 Posted May 13, 2012 Did anybody else here have/had trouble finding Demons to Diamonds besides myself? Also wondering on some of the rarer Sears' titles on when you obtained them in your collection? For example, when did you get your Superman or Chess... did you get lucky and find it early or one of the last ones in your collection? Math Gran Prix is another great example. the 5th ghost #17 Posted May 13, 2012 Math Gran Prix was the last one I needed back when i was collecting the boxed Sears games. I also collected the number variants ( I was a little crazy, yes, but i did it!) http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/139803-selling-my-atari-collection/page__p__1690467__hl__selling%20my%20collection__fromsearch__1?do=findComment&comment=1690467
Zwackery #18 Posted May 13, 2012 Some of the number variants are possibly more rare than Cannon Man, but as far as regular titles go, CM tops the list. It's been on eBay (individual listing) like once or something in 10 years? Checkers tends to pop up in collections of boxed games - IIRC, there were at least 7 Sears Checkers CIB auctioned on eBay in 2010 alone, and at least another 4 in last year - but it is definitely a sleeper title in terms of rarity. A lot of people find the Sears Superman release challenging to get. And of course Math Gran Prix is a tough box to nab; since 2008 I've only seen it in 3 auctions or so. I think the Sears Math Gran Prix is going to a tad bit on the tough side, but if you can get the two hardest titles, this should be no problem.
dobidy #22 Posted May 14, 2012 I'm not so much into the Sears games, although I do have a bunch, and a Sears system as well. I picked up a CIB Demons to Diamonds a few months back.I assumed it was a gatefold box, but it is not. I had put it away and hadn't looked at it other than to see if the cart was in it.Excuse the picture, taken with a low res cam. The box and manual are in great shape, with some minor bumps.(This might sound like a sales pitch, but I am open to offers!)
Zwackery #23 Posted May 15, 2012 Did you have trouble w/ Demons to Diamonds at all? Not really, but I was buying up Sears titles like mad back in 2007 or so.
