DaytonaUSA #1 Posted May 17, 2012 I just purchased this game yesterday (I know, I'm late to the party), and to put it bluntly I was playing till 5 am on a work night (it's that good!). Anywho, I played past me obtaining the dragonstone, and was in Riverwood waiting to talk to someone. I decided to skip 2 hours time when he would probably have his door open, and when the time elapsed there were three guys in front of me, blocking me from escaping off the porch and killed me very quickly. I restarted where I left off, this time preparing myself just in case they came, and sure enough at the same time they started marching towards me. I barely won (being a low level character) and found that ironically enough the priestess Danica issued the contract on me. I've heard horror stories about these thugs never ceasing to come. The only thing I stole was accidentally in that church and a guard saw me do it, so I already paid my fine and was force to give back the item I stole. So now that these thugs are dead, is that it? As long as I don't steal I'm good to go, right? Or will they keep coming after me? I've heard that at least on the PC version they can come even if you're in a cut scene or talking to someone, killing you without you having a chance, so I'm just a little apprehensive about these encounters until I can level up my character more. +Random Terrain #2 Posted May 17, 2012 I only had hired thugs come after me once. But I would have assassins come after me for other reasons.
DaytonaUSA #3 Posted May 17, 2012 I only had hired thugs come after me once. But I would have assassins come after me for other reasons. Ok, that's good to know. Why did the assassins come, and at what time frame in the game should I expect them? Being level 5 isn't a good level to be assaulted by higher-powered bots. +Random Terrain #4 Posted May 17, 2012 I don't remember. I played it 3 times. It seemed kind of random and didn't happen that often. I was never sure who wanted me dead or what I did.
+Gemintronic #5 Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) Thugs can be useful if you let them harm other NPCs. If they kill a homeowner you can loot the corpse for their house keys. Good times. Edited May 17, 2012 by theloon
DaytonaUSA #6 Posted May 17, 2012 Thugs can be useful if you let them harm other NPCs. If they kill a homeowner you can loot the corpse for their house keys. Good times. That's interesting. And yeah, I got a lot of gold and armor from them, which is good. It's just I was hoping to hear that once you kill them, that contract is up. I'll steal again when I'm high enough level to not risk getting killed from their attacks. But I'm just hoping at this moment that the priestess' hit on me is done now that the three guys are dead. StanJr #7 Posted May 17, 2012 If the contract is out from the Dark Brotherhood, the assassins will continue to come, almost always one at a time, until you join or erradicate the Dark Brotherhood. Otherwise, someone has hired the thugs to attack you usually for something you stole. If you stole in front of a guard and paid the fine, the private citizen who you wronged can still put out a contract on you. Usually, wiping out the thugs will take care of the contract, but I suppose it is possible to have a second contract out on you. There is a difference between a bounty and a contract. There is some way to resolve the contract, usually talking to the wrong party will reveal a resolution, if there is one. I accidentally stole something from the Inn in one of the first towns I entered, and as soon as I left town I was ambushed. I killed the thugs and returned to the inn and the innkeeper was all bitchy to me. I did something to calm her down, but I forget now what that was. StanJr #9 Posted May 18, 2012 Don't I wish, my character is a bitchin' ass hot chick and that would have been some rockin' girl-on-girl action! As it is, I married a hottie from Riften...
