Artlover #1 Posted January 25, 2003 So, whats your favorite home version of Ms.Pac-man. If you want, feel free to explain why, and maybe a list of the home ports you have. I like the Atari 2600 version the best. Sure, it's GFX & Sound arn't as good as any of the other. But the 2600 version really captured the pure raw essence of the game and it's game play very well. More so then most others did. Sega Dreamcast version (ala: Namco Museum) is a very close second and all around great version. The Atari 7800 version is the easiest version of Ms.Pac-Man I have ever played. I have Ms.Pac-man for: Atari 800 Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Atari 7800 Commodore 64 Nintendo SNES Sega Genesis (Tengen version) Sega Dreamcast (Ms.Pac-man 3D and Namco Museum versions)
NE146 #2 Posted January 25, 2003 Agreed! I'm a Ms Pac FREAK. My high on the arcade is a little over 300k (far from the "record" but I think it's pretty good ) And as far as my favorite home version. It's the 2600 version! There's just something about it, and the mazes (with the exception of the third) are close enough yet also different enough that it has that certain flavor and vibe.. I can't describe it. Growing up I had this version and the 5200 version. And although the 5200 version had the exact mazes, the intermissions and everything else, again there is just something about the 2600 version that draws me back to this day It's just got that elusive "charm"
Nukey Shay #3 Posted January 25, 2003 The 8-bit cartridge...perhaps because it's the first home version that I had.
Gregory DG #4 Posted January 25, 2003 7800 is definitely the best. It just has that smooth feel to it that the other versions (Genesis included) don't have.
MegaManFan #5 Posted January 25, 2003 I'm partial to playing it on 7800, but it's not bad on Commodore 64.
Rhindle The Red #6 Posted January 25, 2003 The Lynx version is my favorite. I like the many screens it has and the turbo button. Cool beans. I've got Ms. Pac-Man for: Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Atari 7800 Atari 8-Bit Atari Lynx Nintendo Entertainment System Sega Genesis People...all going somewhere. Each with their own thoughts, their own ideas. Each with their own personalities.
MacGurl #7 Posted January 25, 2003 I like Ms. PacMan on the 7800 best.
AtariLeaf #8 Posted January 25, 2003 Yes, please put me down for one 7800 version and one SNES version. Both are addictive in a non-12 step program kind of way.
Dr Galaga #9 Posted January 25, 2003 I like the 2600 version. Of course that's the only system that I have every owned....
raindog #10 Posted January 25, 2003 Ms. Pac Man has never held my attention for long (I always go back to Pac Man, it just seems less cartoony and more "zen") but I probably like the 2600 version best too. Though the Namco Museum version for the GBA is the closest to the arcade version that I've owned. Rob
sku_u #11 Posted January 25, 2003 Technically, isn't the Namco Museum version for PS2 the best version since it's almost exactly the same as the Arcade version? I love Ms. Pac-Man. I have it for the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, NES, and PS2.
liquid_sky #12 Posted January 25, 2003 7800.. def so.
Witchfynde #13 Posted January 25, 2003 I like the Genesis version the best, due to all the enhancements and all, like the Pac Booster, which makes you go fast, two players onscreen at once, one variation where you "cripple" the other player (one person eats an energizer, the other player freezes up, looking really sad and can't eat the ghosts ), arcade, big mazes, weird mazes, mini-mazes, etc. Plenty to go around! AtariDude #14 Posted January 26, 2003 The Playstation version of Ms. Pac Man from Namco from the Namco Museum CDs is my favorite simply because it is the real thing. If I had to choose another one, I would have to choose the 7800 version. I like the fact that they kept the cartoons in the game as opposed to say the 2600 version that just goes onto the next screen.
SS #15 Posted January 26, 2003 I'd have to go with the 2600 version because it's one of the best games made for the system as a whole and the Genesis version because of all of the extra features that you can play around with.
chrisbid #16 Posted January 26, 2003 i dont care for the emulation version found in the namco museums and Ms Pac Man Maze Madness. In order to get true perfect emulation, you have to turn your screen sideways. the squished version doesnt look or feel quite right. I really do love VCS Ms Pac Man. Of course it doesnt look the best, but compared to the original Pac man, you can see Atari took the complaints to heart, and really put a lot of effort into the port. The game has a lot of heart. btw, id give my left arm for one of those Namco 20th anniversary machines with Ms Pac Man and Galaga
ubersaurus #17 Posted January 26, 2003 7800 version is the best. Personally I hated the pac-booster that was in so many versions for a time.
Cassidy Nolen #18 Posted January 26, 2003 2600 is the fave, but thats if you dont count the version that takes quarters. Currently, I have 3 of them (one in a laundromat, one in my basement, and one to be sold to a pizza place in the garage). Cassidy Think that they would notice if I gutted it and stuffed a 2600 in it instead?
holygrailvideogames.com #19 Posted January 27, 2003 My favorite version is for the Lynx. I am sure a lot of you have not played the Lynx version, but it is great.
AtariDude #20 Posted January 28, 2003 I have the version for the Lynx and while I like it, I find it hard to control Ms. Pac Man. Maybe I simply haven't played it enough.
christianscott #21 Posted January 28, 2003 although its not even close to the arcade game i'm partial to my coleco table top ms. pac man. the two player two pac mode is pretty fun and the ghost have amazing AI for a handheld.
MegaManFan #22 Posted January 28, 2003 Since nobody's said it yet.. The WORST version is the handheld Ms. Pac-Man that was just released in the last year. I bought it at a Circuit City when it was on clearance for $7, and still paid too much. The battery cover is SCREWED down, so break out your toolkit if you even want to play. The LCD graphics they used are very large, so you have to scroll endlessly to see where the dots are you didn't eat - not to mention you have no idea which direction the monsters are coming from. Speaking of which, they laid out the Ms. Pac-Man and monster LCD graphics side by side, which I suppose is necessary in the rare event you can actually "eat them" but for most practical purposes means they end up getting you when in the same situations in a real home translation of Ms. Pac-Man they wouldn't. +opcode #23 Posted January 28, 2003 Just as a side note, I am porting both Pac-Man and Ms Pac Man for the ColecoVision. You can see it here: http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19992 Suggestions are always welcome. Eduardo Mello
moycon #24 Posted January 29, 2003 I'll go with the 2600 version, only because I was so amazed by it. Especially after the original 2600 Pac-Man
AtariLeaf #25 Posted January 29, 2003 I just picked up the 8-bit version yesterday. Its pretty good too. Fairly close to the 7800 version. BTW, that colecovision homebrew sounds really interesting.
