Stella GUI question

Sorry i searched on the forums and the site but could not find this information, I am sure this question is asked before...

 

is there artwork packs of box scans, snapshots etc for the Stella emulator that you can load into the GUI? (like you can get for mame)

There are snapshots available under the downloads section of the Stella homepage. Unfortunately, there is no such collection of box or cart scans, and even if there were, the UI in Stella doesn't yet support showing anything other than snapshots. I've always planned to extend the UI to show carts as well, but so far I haven't found the time.

There's no such collection that can be linked here... however I have downloaded such a collection of box, cart, manual AND "snapshot" video for my GameEx setup elsewhere. Edited May 24, 2012 by ClassicGMR

I probably should have been clearer; I don't maintain such a collection, other than for snapshots. I'm sure they are collections online somewhere. In fact when I maintained KStella (a Linux KDE Stella frontend), I created cart and manual archives. Perhaps they're still available??

Oh I wasn't saying anything negative about you or your development! I just happen to be setting up GameEx and was told that one of my favorite sites had them available.

IF anyone knows anyway to have a frontend for stella that supports cart scans, box scans or manuals etc please let me know!

You can try an external front end like GameEx, Maximus Arcade or Hyperspin. These are front-ends for all emulators and makes it an all in one(ish) setup.

No offense taken, I just wanted to be clear that I personally only take care of snapshots, and that's all that Stella currently supports. And while I may add a tab for carts in the future, my recommendation is to use a frontend that specializes in this stuff. The ROM launcher in Stella is somewhat basic, and is meant to just get you up and running and playing a game. Some people may require more functionality, which is why Stella can also be launched from the commandline and bypass the launcher on startup. And it can also be configured to not go back to the ROM launcher (on exit) if it wasn't started that way. So it's possible to completely bypass the built-in frontend (which is by design).

 

I recommend for anything beyond basic usage that you look into GameEx or similar, because the current frontend won't be extended much further.
