It's got the Chess Piece box, but IDK if it's Light or heavy?

The pic on the box is a heavy. The actual console in the foreground is a light. I know there's something to do without Atari not changing the graphics on their boxes when they transitioned from heavy to light models. It could also be that the seller is just trying to sell a heavy box with a light console in it.

The frontal shape is the dead giveaway. Heavy has the much more rounded look and the black plastic lip that adjoins the top grille is thicker on heavy vs light.

That is a desirable box. It would be worth picking up just for the box only if it were in better shape. That is not the original console that came in that box.

Are you sure that's not what came in the box? Mine is exactly the same. Heavy Sixer image with a Light Sixer inside. The serial numbers on the box, inside cardboard inserts and console all match.

Agreed, I have had several 6 switchers with the heavy box and light units inside. Only way to tell is if the serial numbers match.

Do your boxes have a picture of a little chess piece on it? Those were the ACTUAL heavy sixer boxes

Ah. No mine doesn't have the chess piece on it. Same picture though. I always thought it odd that they have the old Heavy Sixer image on a box for the Light Sixer. Cheaper not to reprint/change artwork for Atari I guess. A tad bit of false advertising though. It's a case of not what it says on the tin!

well my 2 PAL heavy sixers had the chess piece, light sixers had no chess piece, but heavy sixer depicted on the box
