Intellivision vs Atari 2600 The Ultimate Comparison Video

Recommended Posts

Damn, I just could not sit through the entire video, way too long.

Nice job making it though, very informative for those new to Classic Consoles.

Gotta include ColecoVision! :)

I think it would have been a bad idea to add Colecovision to the video for 2 reasons. Intellivision and Atari 2600 had a well known rivalry. The video was done for information purpose and for letting people know what games are better on the two system based on his own opinion.

The 2nd thing is there is a big age difference in technology between Atari 2600 and the Colecovision compare to Atari 2600 and Intellivision. If there is going to a Colecovision comparison video in terms of games, have it against the Atari 5200 instead of the Atari 2600.

Yeah thats true. It was Atari vs Int back in the day. I remember seeing the George Plimpton commercials and even kids at school at the time always bragged which one was better. I remember when ONLY those two systems were featured at stores.

I always wanted an Intellivision because of the better looking games and AD&D :P.

Never got one though back in the day. By the time I saved money from my parents and could get something the Colecovision came out and I got that (mainly because Donkey Kong was HUGE back then).

Well it seems your doing well view wise (I compared your averages on past vids) so I am sure it is just Fanboyism but hey who cares, it's getting a reaction and views!

Fun video! I enjoyed it (though I'll admit that I mainly scanned through to see the final evaluations), and I agree with most of your assessments (though I think Frogger is definitely better on the VCS, and Defender is better -- albeit brutally hard! -- on the Intellivision).

But it's definitely not the "ultimate" in the literal sense (i.e. the last one) because there are so many more games left to be compared. Off the top of my head, these are a must for sequel video(s):

Beamrider

Bump 'N' Jump

Congo Bongo

Dragonfire

Fathom

He-Man

Kool-Aid Man

Lady Bug

Lock 'N' Chase

Space Battle (vs. Space Attack)

Star Strike

Super Cobra

Turbo

Tutankham

And then we have games that were officially released on one system, and are prototypes on the other:

Adventures of Tron

Rocky & Bullwinkle

Sea Battle

(plus a couple uncirculated prototypes of the D&D games on Atari, but those don't count...yet?)

And then the close calls that aren't exactly the same game, but worth comparing:

Pinball vs. Video Pinball

Shark! Shark! (vs. Go Fish)

Snafu (vs. Surround)

Space Spartans vs. Star Raiders (?)

And that doesn't even touch the board games (Backgammon, Checkers, Chess, Reversi) or sports games! :D So your work on this planet is not yet done.

Thank you sir. And yes you caught me red handed, I used to word Ultimate just as an attention getter to get people to watch it and it was a last second decision while it was uploading. :-D

But i still could make a part 2 in the future.

It was actually tough deciding what to include, what not to include and how long i wanted the video to be.

Let's see here. I actually recorded footage for Lock n Chase on the Intellivision but never got around to recording the 2600 footage. After i seen how long the video was going to be i canned it.

A few of those were victims of me running out of room. A few a still need to get. #1 on my list is getting Beamrider on the 2600. Need to get Super Cobra for the Intellivision and Tutunkham for both. Looks like part 2 may be many years in the future.

A few of those you mentioned did cross my mind. Like pinball. I didn't record Fathom but i did give a test go and i was lost and said forget this. lol

A few others i didn't show because i have no idea what i'm doing. Didn't have time to read up on them.

Snafu vs Surround is a brilliant idea. I like that. Want to hear a good one? I uploaded some footage for surround last year and out of nowhere it get hits with a content id claim and not for the video but for the audio. Have you heard the god awful sound that game makes? How can someone put a claim on that. I think it was bogus claim. Get real.

Isn't Lady Bug for the 2600 a homebrew? I decided not to show homebrews or i could of cleaned house showing the DK homebrew on the Intellivision. |:)

Anybody want to do part 2? Any volunteer's? I'd like to see it as well.
