goldenegg #1 Posted May 31, 2012 Just curious what skill level people used to play on the CV back in the day. I was 4 when my parents brought home the CV in 1982 and they showed me to press 1 to start the game. To this very day I still press 1, simply due to habit.
Pixelboy #2 Posted May 31, 2012 Never saw the point of playing a game at a higher skill level, because playing as skill level 1 meant that you had more time to rack up points before the difficulty ramped up into unsustainable territory. There were a few exceptions, like 2010 (I can win the game at skill level 1 in my sleep) and Bump 'n Jump (no dump trucks in skill level 1 no matter how long you play, you have to play at skill level 2 or above to see them). cimerians #3 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) I used to press 1 back when I was young when I first got my CV. Circa 1983. I got so good at certain games like Smurf Rescue and Ladybug that I started hitting 4 every single time. Pluse some games didnt have certain features or characters in easy difficulties so I just played it on 4 so I didnt miss anything and I was always up to the challange. Today I still select 4. edit - I dont select 4 ALL the time. Sometimes it just depends on the game..... Edited May 31, 2012 by cimerians
ColecoDan #4 Posted May 31, 2012 I used to always press 1 as well since I was young and usually today still do the same unless the competions says to choose a different level. However even when I was young the one game I would never play at level 1 was Smurf Rescue because that game was a joke at level one. I believe I always chose level 3 for that game. NIAD #5 Posted May 31, 2012 Back in the day, I always started on Skill Level #1 figuring I'd be able to rack up some really nice scores. Now-a-days, I usually start on Skill Level #3... noticing I missed a lot of game elements as PixelBoy mentioned above.
LynxVGL #6 Posted June 5, 2012 I always tended to play on "3" because that was the "arcade difficulty setting." Silly me.
SlowCoder #7 Posted June 5, 2012 Back in the day, and now ... level 1. I don't have time to play enough to advance to higher levels.
Yurkie #8 Posted June 6, 2012 I played 1 until I got better, then I would play skill 4 from then on. I have almost never played skills 2 or 3. That is unless it was Q*bert then there are only 3 skills
hardhat #9 Posted June 6, 2012 Well I usually played on level 1, but when I got good at a game, and wanted more challenge I'd experiment with the other skill levels. So there were great elements added at the higher skill levels sometimes.
SKELETOR68 #10 Posted June 7, 2012 Always level #1, if I want it harder, just head to the Arcade down the street,LOL
Vic George 2K3 #11 Posted June 8, 2012 Mostly skill level 1, except for Smurf Rescue, which I ended up playing mostly at skill level 4.
atarilovesyou #12 Posted June 14, 2012 I always tended to play on "3" because that was the "arcade difficulty setting." Silly me. Today, I play them all on level 3...at least the arcade titles. Although way back when, it was just level 1. Which I always thought was great for Turbo, since you had unlimited lives and could only die via running out of time. I really liked the explosion of your car on the other skill levels, but I was terrible soooooo...level 1 it was!
