The Free Arcade Token promotion is back! Same rules as last year. Find the secret word on the web site, send in your mailing address, get a token in the mail. (or in this case THREE!)

This year they have 3 new tokens. Copper, Red Brass, and Emerald Green. Each token is made for a different event. The first is for E3 Expo, the second is for Comic Con 2012, and the 3rd is for the Classic Gaming Expo 2012. The mail-away is the only way to get all three without attending the events. All three tokens are limited to 1000 units each.

There is also an early bird special. The first 55 people will get all 5 collectible tokens.

There is also a crazy bonus attatched to the lucky Emerald Green Token.

It also will grant the owner special access to our Emerald Token Club. This will allow the owner early access to future tokens, the ability to vote on new token designs, contest bonuses, and other secret privileges that are yet to be revealed!

Because of legal troubles, this year's coins will have the head of Bryan Cranston on them instead of a Space Invader. :D

It's funny that you mention their temporary legal troubles. It appears a very bitter, very petty human being contacted Square-Enix / Taito and told them that the site was "selling" the arcade tokens in question. (long story.) Can you believe it? Of course anyone who follows that site knows the tokens have alway been available free of charge to anyone who wanted one, no matter where they lived in the world.

After a few days of legal wrangling, and some back in forth between the lawyers, the tokens have returned to the site. (And it's great to know an attorney who works pro bono. :) )

The tokens will return for a fourth year and production has already begun on the new coins (with a brand new design). It was metioned in this article that previous tokens would not be available in future promotions. And that's mainly because there are none left. "Emerald Token Club" members are also currently voting in secret on the new design, which is being created by a very well known artist. This will definitely be the best coin so far.

Fun Facts: Over 10,000 tokens have been distributed since 2009, to all 50 US states and to 28 countries world wide. Roughly three dozen celebrities have recevied these tokens, including Leonard Nimoy, Kevin Smith, Jeff Bridges, Vern Troyer and literally dozens of notable video game industry legends including Miyamoto, Peter Molyn

ux, Yuji Naka and more.

Disney briefly produced Tron arcade tokens for the premiere of Tron Legacy. The story goes like this. DTB was distributing these tokens at E3 2009 when a man from the Disney corporation approached them and asked "where did you get these tokens made?" DTB hooked them up with their supplier and the rest is history. There is also a small tribute to DTB's version of Doctor Gonzo (which is slightly different from the movie version) in the game "Dead Rising 2: Off the Record." (You have to know what to look for, but once you do, well... it's very funny.)

So anyway, if you have any of the original tokens, hold on to them, because they are no longer available. And if you're interested in the new coins, well get in line early because in the tradition of upping the ante each year... (I've said too much.)

Very special thanks to Atari Age for allowing digthatbox.com to post this topic on the site. In fact the DTB has something very special planned just for AA members, you should hear more about it sometime in the future. Call it their way of saying thanks. :)
