trego #1 Posted June 9, 2012 So my name is Matt Trego, and I've owned, played, and collected Atari 2600 games since before I can remember. (I'm 25 years old, born in 1986) I started playing Tanks and Cops vs Robbers, Pitfall soon after. I borrowed my Grandmother's boyfriend's system, before I started going to yardsales, and collected at least 100 different cartriges. Along with Colecovision, NES, and Intellivision, I purged my vintage game collection when I got my Sega Genesis. At the time, this was the right move, but I'm thankful that I cannot remember what cartriges I owned, fearing a few might have been rare, and a lot of them had the original boxes/manuals. So from there I went Genesis to Playstaion to Playstation 2 to Playstation 3, and only a few months ago my father found a relatively large collection of Atari Games, System, Controllers, and Case for 5 dollars at a yard sale. I found out there were a few that are relatively rare, including Asterix. I was wondering if I were to list my games if you guys could tell me if I have any more rare titles? Anyway, Glad to be a part of the forum! Blessings, Matt Trego
trego #2 Posted June 9, 2012 I forgot to mention, that I also owned a 7800 for a time, and LOVED choplifter. I think I'd still love it to this very day!
Zwackery #3 Posted June 9, 2012 If Asterix is NTSC, then yes, it is rare. The AA rarity guide is an okay start, but it is out of date here and there, and when it comes to R8s, 9s, and 10s, there are varying interpretations on those rankings. (You can see these discussions in the Rarity Guide forum.)

LidLikesIntellivision #5 Posted June 9, 2012 (edited) Welcome to AtariAge. You can always verify the rarity in this page. from AtariAge search. And there's also Atarimania, a very good place to check too. And don't be sad for your first Atari departure, I did it too when trading my Atari and Games for some Nes Games it seemed a good move back then... (probably many people had done such trades) Edit: I was beated by Zwackery by 10 minutes, oh I'm too slow writting in English... OBO #6 Posted June 9, 2012 Hi, As far as I know, Asterix is a PAL(and SECAM)-only release. And not so rare at all. I doubt there was a NTSC version made as basically, they took the "Taz" game, and replaced the sprites with sprites related to Asterix (Roman helmets, Harp, etc...) Have a look on youtube with search terms Asterix Atari 2600 and Taz Atari 2600. Same game, different sprites

nofrills100 #8 Posted June 9, 2012 (edited) Don't listen to OBO (Sorry OBO ) But it was also released in NTSC but in very limited amounts, hence its rarity. The PAL Asterix has a few identifiers such as 'P' on the end label, but not always. One way to check if it is NTSC would be to load it up and compare the screen colours to a confirmed NTSC cart... there is a screenshot on the AA database you could compare it to. Looking at the Atarimania database you can only see the start up screens - but the NTSC one is green and the PAL one is purple. You could upload a screenshot and ask if an owner could confirm it for you. Edited June 9, 2012 by nofrills100
OBO #9 Posted June 9, 2012 (edited) OK, sorry, sorry, I said something stupid I still haven't finished browsing the whole AtariAge forums Is Asterix this known in the US that they released a game for it, whereas it's basically Taz with different sprites ? +TrekMD #10 Posted June 10, 2012 Welcome to Atari Age! You should check out the homebrews that are available for the 2600. You'll be impressed with what has been accomplished with the console.
