HSC9 Round 10: Crystal Castles

Recommended Posts

trbb, my 137K score is for the 1988 version no warps

Thanks. corrected above :)

CC1988 - 392,619 - Got to level 9 that impossible staircase but got stuck twice trying to move across with a hyperactive tree in hot pursuit

post-19705-0-33836800-1341567725.jpg

CC1984 - 329,368 - Level 8 despite loosing 3 men gettting stuck under lifts - eventually the bees come and kill you if you stand still.

Now then, am I missing something point grabbingly obvious - I managed to kill a green 'dot eater'(?) for the 1st time... how ? think I was running at high speed into one as it ate a dot - think I read something about this in the instructions :? :-o

[i guess as Dodgers record is 600K he knew the secret (and the warps) so I've made it a bonus point challenge:

The 1988 "XE" version was played way back at the start of season 5; the record is 602,089 held by former HSC great dodgers. 1pt bonus for beating this score (using warps) ]

Heavy Metal

6 Jewels :P just one more to find and I'm rich, rich I tell you :D

Keep the scores coming folks! This round and the VOTE for the next game close Monday morning UK time. Be sure to checkout both versions of Crystal Castles and post your thoughts... also Heavy Metal is worth a few goes to pick up some HSC bonus points ; 1pt per Jewel Collected ;)

Geat work Scalak

OK I need your help on Heavy Metal - played all morning but still only 6 Jewels. I have 4 by the time I reach the 1st RED background screen; is this correct? I can't see where to go after getting 6; I get stuck on a dead end of 3 red screens. Apart from the BLUE screen with all the pads on the floor and the one up above I think I've been everywhere but obviously I keep missing one :-o

Thanks ;)

Last day to VOTE folks - I've made it a public vote so we can see who's voted for what.... think we have a few shy players lucking in the ranks... c'mon folks join in - the more the merrier :)

Thanks - it's that bottom screen - I didn't think you could go left (must need an eye test as clearly you can!!!) so looks like I'll need to play one more time! I'll not use the map yet! Thanks for doing the Heavy Metal Map it may help a few more players enjoy this decent game

After much play got to 1st screen of Level 10 on CC '88 - think I'm done 474,244 :)

This'll make you chuckle - I played the version of Heavy Metal that I'd typed in years ago (orph are you still typing?!!!) - and on that screen that scalak posted I don't have a path to the left exit so couldn't get the final jewel - I'm guessing I made a typo  better correct that 20+ year old bug :D oh well! Heavy Metal remains one of the best magazine games I've seen; arguably better than many commerical releases of the time  to Mr. Paul Lay

Turns out Crystal Castles is an excellent game - I've no idea why I've not played this for years! The '84 version offers faster movement on PAL initially but the official '88/XE/5200 version gets plenty fast enough and gives you a chance to eat the dot muchers, on the early levels at least :) Despite a solid perfortmance from orpheuswaking It's congratulations to the "Atari 8-bit Gaming Machine" better know as Scalak for winning CC both versions and Heavy Metal    (can anyone stop him? :-o )

Thanks for playing everyone ;-)
