Anyone remember Solar Fox

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

A few weeks ago I re-installed my Atari 2600 on my desk, next to my old and great Atari 800XL. In my rather large collection of Atari 2600 games I found this game called "Solar Fox" ....

I never knew this game is so much fun. It really is a great game!

Does anyone remember this game, and... does anyone know this game is ported to Atari 8bit?

Thanks

Marius

I even remember playing the arcade game back in the day. Good game, and the Atari 2600 port did it good justice.

Cool looking game - I have not played either, but the longplay video for Solar Fox looks nice.

Solar Fox is hyper-additicve. It was given to me as a gift when it was on closeout. I hated it becuse it wasn't a game I'd heard of. But when there's nothing else to play...

Anway, I really came to love that game.

Exactly!!!! That was why I did not touch it when I was much younger. I only played the famous titles (when I got a huge collection from someone) ... but now I thought: why not... I'm going to try every title at least 10 minutes. OMG... how cool is this game. It is a stayer!

Man, my brother and I played that in the arcades a lot. He even bought one (though it refuses to display correctly now), it was always a fun game to play. I never liked the Tron joystick, though, it always felt like I was going to break that thing off its base because of how hard I was pushing it to try to avoid dying, haahaa.

I am considering doing a "Solar Fox" clone. This game also has been ported to the Commodore 64 and Commodore Vic-20. I have done some work and doing some experiments with the player/missile multiplex logic to see if I can get the sprites to move around in a taller section of the screen. The Screenshot is still of an early work-in-progress.

I would like to try for a faithful clone. I know the original copyright holder is a defunct company. As usual I would give this game a different title. I have not came up with one yet.
