Craigslist (not my listing) Atari 2600 with 13 games $250?

Recommended Posts

I noticed that in Craigslist the prices are over inflated beyond reason. The service is free so people don't care if it doesn't sale. They want retail price for used items.

Sometimes is good to ignore them.

There are good deals out there, I myself scored some good stuff.

In my area almost all things gaming related on the Craigslist are well over priced, and the trend seems to be that no one like the xbox 360 as they are listed at about a rate of 15 to 1 over the ps3, and vintage stuff is so over priced it's laughable.

I agree with the sentinents being expressed here- people forget that there were millions of Atari 2600s in production, it's not like an obscure coin that was only minted in a series of ten thousand or something. The question remains, though: do people actually pay that much?

It is about the same here in Canada...although most are on Kijiji. There is a rare occasions to get a deal though. This weekend I picked up a 7800, 2 juniors and a light sixer w/ 10 games for $25..from a guy who has been advertising a 2600 at $100 for 2 years. I guess he finally gave up.

The funny thing about this is I have listed at good prices on CL before and I have a hard time selling even then. Surely the people asking insane money are getting nothing at all from their effort. For all the things I have listed on CL I have sold 1 Vader 2600 with maybe 10 common games. When I list other items all I get is vendors at local flea markets wanting every game I have for $1 per or people wanting a complete list of games I have for sale, but never responding at all when they get it.

Mostly, CL is a bust 99% of the time, but 1% of the time you find something worth getting and that makes it worth the little time I take to look. If nothing else it is often good for a laugh.

I love reading CL for the spelling mistakes. Try it and see - sometimes the results are just hilarious.

Here's one selling "Genisis"

Grand F**k???? Never heard of that record before

Yeah, also "atracks" (not 8 tracks) and "meany" more (not many more).

Um, I'm surprised CL let that one slip by - what a dweeb

i know this is a bit random, but because you were asking if that deal was worth 250 bucks, i was wondering if what i bought was good:

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 2907387748501?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=290738774850&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

That was by no means a yard sale treasure, but you could've done worse. Personally, I refuse to buy anything 2600-related off eBay because the prices are just terrible. I pick all my VCS stuff up exclusively either from craigslist or yard sales (and the occasional FaceBook swap group find) because those are the only places you're still going to find phenomenal deals.

But as the OP in this thread pointed out, even those channels have been polluted by the stupid picker fad shows, especially that one Storage Wars episode with the idiot redneck bubbas (and as a redneck bubba myself, I can use that term) saying they expected to get a thousand bucks for the crappy-condition NES-001 ("That's the first one they ever made!") and a rubbish VCS with some moldy games. People actually buy into and believe that garbage. And as a result, I see more and more craigslist listings asking for just outright stupid prices on crappy consoles and carts that I wouldn't even give to my nephews to smash with a hammer.

i find the same problem in the Pittsburgh area. I try to educate people on the prices of the classic systems being a long time collector, almost 30 years, but nobody seems to care. There's a local shop that's been selling the same shit games for 12 years because they are all overpriced. I wonder if the owners ever wonder why the games don't sell.
