Absolutely valid idea, I used to love working with EPYX Fun With Art - very powerful compared with other tools at the time. But very limiting and stopped the exploration of the target platforms's full power as image creation tools and techniques easily exceed the working RAM and storage abilities of 8bit machines even when the machine can display the images created - hence why cross development tools are used for games development rather than on hardware tools...

Did anyone creating commercial artwork for games ever use the native tools on the target platform after about '83/'84? As soon as possible I started using ST/PC/Amiga or other cross development tools to create stuff for the 8bit platforms - I think my first non native art package was MacPaint and Prism on the Amiga development kits.

I remember using a program called Graphic Art Department (or something) to draw some title screens for Black Lamp and Tagalon etc - but used home made stuff to do in game graphics and PMs - didn't even know you could do cross platform until way too late!

I loved GAD - despite it's mode 7 only functionality it's tools were awesome!

I always liked your artwork!

Today should have been the day of the return of the Formula One circus to Zandvoort, The Netherlands. Because of COVID-19, it has been postponed. Here's a quick conversion of (part of) the promotional poster for the 1975 Grand Prix of Zandvoort. Won by James Hunt, the tax-refugee from the UK. Niki Lauda was second, but won in 1974, 1977 and 1985, the last time they raced in Zandvoort.

Too dark, the complection needs to lighten, and the forehead needs to darken... contrast is too much. lighten most of the face and darken the bright patches...

edit added a low res picture...

Close but no cigar, Ivo...the one I asked has two T's on WhiTTaker ;-)

Darn, I already had the feeling someThing was missing ;)

@_The Doctor__ I specifically chose for this look, to make it less bland and have a kind of pixelated look, as if she was a mysterious dark sorceress in an SNES RPG :D

Wow, this is almost the same cut-out of a random picture I have been trying for a few hours now. Here's one of my latest destination pictures:

No properly resolved conversion like drpeter's yet. But it's such a coincidence we were working on the same picture, but slightly differently framed.

>> But it's such a coincidence we were working on the same picture<<

Perhaps not so much of a coincidence, since it's one of the first ones that pops up on Google images...

I shifted the hues slightly in pre-processing to get rid of the vitiligo effect you're getting.

best wishes

Pretty famous Page 3 girl probably second only to Samantha Fox.  I was surprised that she didn't dominate the image search though it's probably 20 years past her peak.

Most famous to gamers because of:

and

When I image search for Maria Whittaker, this one's the 39th image. I was looking for a face-only image. The rest won't fit in 8-bits ;)

You can also find Maria Whittaker in a music video by Genesis (Anything she does), together with a few more porn/softporn stars. There is also a Lady Diana double in the video and of course Benny Hill...

I have enjoyed this thread for a long time. It's fascinating to see what the 8 bit Atari computers can do graphically. Imagine how proud we would have been in the 80s with these amazing images?

Now 100 pages in size... amazing! :)
