PAC-MAN-RED #1 Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) Hey all! I've often wondered what Bubble Bobble would look like if it was on the 7800. I decided to stop wondering and do something about it, and so here they are - Bubble Bobble arcade sprites converted for the 7800: Bubble Bobble Arcade - 7800 Comparison.zip Just the 7800 Converted Sprites: Bubble Bobble 7800 Sprites.zip Level Tile Comparison: Bubble Bobble Wall-Platform block Comparison.zip Don't worry, I wouldn't expect ALL of the sprites to be used; Even the NES version didn't have everything the arcade version did. In fact, I've left a few out(Bub and Bob w/signs and thought bubbles saying Insert coin, Game Over, Thank you, etc.) as they were really not necessary. Thanks to Tezz for posting his Bubble Bobble WIP for the Atari 8-Bit Computers, as his work was my inspiration: http://www.atariage....-bubble-bobble/ Original Sprite Sheet can be found at: http://spriters-reso...obl/sheet/14077 Level Guide showing the level layouts is here: http://www.adamdawes...uide/index.html Illya Edited July 10, 2012 by PAC-MAN-RED
+Gemintronic #2 Posted July 10, 2012 For the layman, what's the difference between the original and your conversions? Amount of colors? Resolution?
Rex Dart #3 Posted July 10, 2012 AA shrunk 'em.
PAC-MAN-RED #4 Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) AA did shrink them. See 1st post for the Zipped up files Illya Edited July 10, 2012 by PAC-MAN-RED
PAC-MAN-RED #5 Posted July 10, 2012 For the layman, what's the difference between the original and your conversions? Amount of colors? Resolution? I reduced the amount of colors by, at most, 10-15 colors out of the entire original palette. The resolution has definitely changed when dealing with high color use and the 7800. Rex Dart #6 Posted July 10, 2012 Looks great! Reminds me of that Bubble Bobble 4CPC project. If somebody could use these to make a similar 7800 port... hoo boy.
Stun Runner 87 #7 Posted July 11, 2012 Bubble Bobble was a great arcade game. From the looks of it, I'm sure a 7800 version would be just as good as the NES version. Its a project worth doing.

PAC-MAN-RED #9 Posted July 11, 2012 WOW, RED! You do absolutely impressive work. Those sprites look awesome! Thank you very much. It's the culmination of many hours of work, but it's a labor of love for this timeless classic.

mimo #12 Posted July 12, 2012 Been wanting this game on the 7800 for years. A real classic. Hope someone picks it up for development.
sh3-rg #13 Posted July 15, 2012 Having worked on a port of Bubble Bobble I can say that it's not one of those games that can be faithfully reproduced as easily as some other old classics. While there's nothing technically stunning in the game, there are quite a few elements that you have to get just right for it to play in a way people will recognise. It wouldn't be one of those port-in-a-few-weeks kind of games, but it's one people really love, especially the 2-player team-up.

CPUWIZ #18 Posted November 2, 2014 I already have the Bubble Bobble music running on the 7800, I got kjmann's version and optimized it down to 1.5KB, running in RMT.
Synthpopalooza #19 Posted August 26, 2019 Necrobump ... because in the meantime, I did the title music here: You will need real hardware to play this ... no emulation. Although ProSystem does a slightly better job than A7800 here.
