RobR #1 Posted July 12, 2012 Today a friend of mine let me know that archive.org has a lot of early computer magazines online. Thought I'd let the Atari community know this. Admin, if this is old news or doesn't belong here, please do what you will. Also, please check my tags and adjust as you see fit. http://archive.org/details/computermagazines

JohnBuell #3 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Here's Atari related: http://archive.org/s...mediatype:texts And whoever did the CTW Enter Magazines, God BLESS YOU! That was the very first computer magazine I had a subscription to. I still have the type in code for the Atari programs somewhere (it's all my parents would let me save ), but seeing the complete issues again.... JamesD #7 Posted July 13, 2012 I had forgotten about enter. I think I bought 1 issue and thought it was mediocre so I never bought another one. There were some interesting articles but I think the magazine flopped like many others because it tried to appeal to people just getting into computers and didn't focus on any one computer. Think Compute but with fewer type ins.
JohnBuell #8 Posted July 13, 2012 Compute still managed to last a long time though. I think what killed Enter was that it was the first Children's Television Workshop magazine without a companion show. Plus the timing of its run (83-85) wasn't so good - starting at the end of the video game crash and trying to stay alive through the home computer crash. +orpheuswaking #9 Posted July 13, 2012 I just selected the computer magazine section and there is years of reading material in there... Good stuff!
+Larry #10 Posted July 13, 2012 There are some really old Compute! issues there -- starting with #2 in 1980. Great! I've never been able to find pre-1981 issues. PDF's seem fine (but large files), but the Kindle versions seem not to work with the Kindle Windows App. Do they seem correct (pages complete, consistent size, etc.) on a real Kindle? I thought that since the Kindle versions are much faster downloading, that might be useful. (?) Maybe not... -Larry

SIO99 #12 Posted July 17, 2012 An amazing archive ! I've just been reading "Advanced Programming Techniques for the Atari". Mind blowing stuff! It includes details of how to make up display lists from BASIC. While we're on the subject of old books, I've found some reasonably priced classic Atari programming books on eBay in Dutch (a language I speak), but I don't know if I should buy them, because I've got a feeling they may now be available online, although I don't remember seeing them anywhere. Can anyone tell me whether or not they are? Some are published by Adison-Wesley Europe, so I think it's likely they are, while others may only have been published in Dutch. Here are links to the books on my list - eBay Auction -- Item Number: 271015692219 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 280919362787 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 271015692225 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 280919362785 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 271015692221 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 271015692220
