Space Invaders Label Mismatch?

Recommended Posts

A few years ago, I bought a copy of space invaders for the 2600. It works great, the best of any of my games. Now, I have seen this before, but not too often:

The front of the cart uses the silver label, however, the end label looks like a picture label, blue text on black background.

Is this just a weird little mixup, or were there tons made like this? Anybody else have one like this? How rare is it?

Super thanks! So it's a little rare, then.

You're welcome. The owner of the site separates them into common, uncommon, and rare. It isn't like the AtariAge rarity guide with 1-10. It is just a basic rarity relative to the other variations of the game. So, yes it is a little rare relative to the others. Do you understand how to read the descriptions and figured out exactly which one it is?

Yes. On the page, it's referred to as version "m". I kinda wish I had a 1-10 style rarity rating on it other than the C/U/R/? thing, but it's alright. Probably nothing more than a 2, but I just though it was a little peculiar. Thanks again.

By the rarity guide it is a 2 because it lumps all the silver/gray label variations together creating an artificially lower rarity than if they were separated. If you look at Raiders of the Lost Ark you would see the opposite effect. They separate it into two silver labels creating an artificially higher rarity for the one with the end label that says,"Raiders Lost Ark". The rarity guide is inconsistent, inaccurate, and incomplete. I think it is mostly good for artificially lowering or raising the price of carts. If there were a more accurate rarity guide that included the thousands of variations of carts that exist then maybe most of the carts on the rarity guide would fit in 1-10 but it would be more like 1-10 out of 100. I could easily find and obtain most of them compared to everything else that is out there if people didn't have the 1-10 to affect their prices. Your cart may actually be a 2 but most of the carts in the rarity guide probably are also. Anyway, type in Atari Space Invaders into ebay and put a check mark on include description then search through the listings. You'll mostly find text labels and black picture labels. See how much harder it is to find yours.
