JamesD #1 Posted July 13, 2012 Game sales down and many stocks are down. http://news.yahoo.com/video/game-over-181039818.html?_esi=
moycon #2 Posted July 13, 2012 I think this is the real reason game makers want a next generation. Think about it. When the 360 launched, there was what? About a dozen games, and they were $59.99-$69.99 apiece. If you were lucky a month later you might have a new game hit the market. There were no $19.99 games. There were no games on clearence. There were very few used games and they were expensive. Right now you can walk into any store, and find a kick ass game for $19.99 or less. Heck I saw Duke Nuke Em new at Target for $7.99 last week!! (Not a kick ass game but totally worth $7.99!!) I don't even look at getting new games at this point. They could stop making games for a couple years and I'd be good. Because of the glut of decent, cheap game the last few years, I'm set. Why would someone pay $59.99 for the latest release when they know in a few weeks it's going to cost considerably less, and when they have dozens of games they picked up on the cheap in their "to play" queue. This is only something that happens when a console has sat on the market for any length of time. Of course the game producers want to hit reset at this point.
JamesD #3 Posted July 13, 2012 There are way too many good titles I haven't played available for a discount for me to bother with buying a $60 game. And a lot of the lesser games are now $5 for smartphones.
Rex Dart #4 Posted July 13, 2012 I think you got it, moycon. The only upcoming game I'm prepared to pay $60 for so far is Borderlands 2, and that's only under the assumption that they don't junk it up between now & release. Anything else, I can pick up cheaply now, or soon, or on Steam for five bucks.
Reaperman #5 Posted July 13, 2012 Is part of this a supply issue? It seems like we're short a few blockbusters this year, doesn't it? Forza's got a spinoff due out by x-mas, but where are the really big franchises. Is there a battlefield/cod/halo/gta? (I may be living in a cave and haven't heard of upcoming mega-hits). Those drive sales numbers. Maybe they're all off secretly working on next gen stuff. Or maybe this is one of those crashes we keep talking about. I have no idea. I suppose a bunch of folks are also wondering what they need game-specific hardware for in a world of pads and smartphones. EA does lots of smartphone stuff, though. onlysublime #6 Posted July 13, 2012 Halo 4. Black Ops 2. Forza Horizon. Borderlands 2. Resident Evil 6. Assassin's Creed III. I don't really keep track as I don't buy games when they're $60.
xg4bx #7 Posted July 14, 2012 i don't pay full price for any game any more. hell even $20-$30 seems a tad too much for me. theres nothing coming out that i need to play day 1 and i'm perfectly content watching the prices of used copies drop on amazon. i have no compelling urge to financially support this hobby anymore.

Mord #9 Posted July 14, 2012 And this is just when I finally get my PS3. Don't worry, all those ps3 games are still going to be there and available on the cheap. Whether or not you'll be able to download the bug fixes virtually every game has is another question.
