gorfcadet #1 Posted July 18, 2012 So this is the second H6 I have ever owned, the first was the one I grew up with. I got a great deal on Goodwill's auction site, H6, original sticks, original paddles, spare paddles, and original AC. The AC and system are both Sunnyvale. Should I retire the AC and get a new one for collectability sake? Also, I see CX40 refurb tutorials and parts, but what about CX10s? I have a couple of dead directions on each stick. Thanks for the advice in advance! I'm just so happy to have my old buddy the H6 back in my home! 👾
Syntaxerror999 #2 Posted July 20, 2012 According to the field service manual the CX-10's are not repairable (at least the mechanical portion).
gorfcadet #3 Posted July 20, 2012 Really? That makes me very sad. Well I guess I can't hurt it by cracking it open and taking a look. Can't make it worse anyway.
SlowCoder #4 Posted July 20, 2012 Really? That makes me very sad. Well I guess I can't hurt it by cracking it open and taking a look. Can't make it worse anyway. Can we safely guess that the cx40s work fine, ruling out a problem at the console ports or chips? Yes, crack the cx10s apart and see what's up. They're actually quite durable, and I'd think they'd have to to have suffered some real abuse to die. Check continuity on the cables, and see if there's any cracking of the contact domes. gorfcadet #5 Posted July 20, 2012 oh yeah, I've been using the system... rotating between cx40s and one of AX's modded nes pads so its the sticks.
gorfcadet #6 Posted July 20, 2012 Opened one up and got up to work and the fire button... no luck on down. Doesn't seem difficult... just an odd mechanism. I'm sure down works, used a pencil eraser to press the contact while it was open. Have to ponder what physical alterations to make to get the stick to make contact... not that this would ever be my everyday stick. The paint on these cx10s are immaculate... I amazed they ever got enough use to malfunction. The only thing I noticed was that the Atari logo on the stick was missing... just a small indention where they were or maybe someone swapped the rubber? SlowCoder #7 Posted July 20, 2012 Down works when pushed with the eraser? The CX10s do have a lot more throw than the CX40s. Are you pulling the stick all the way down?
gorfcadet #8 Posted July 20, 2012 Yeah, the spring might be getting in the way of the plastic pressing the metal surface or just not be big enough to make a good connection? I got the other one up and running just by opening it and adjusting the springs.
