822 Printer

I just got a 822. But no manual or power supply.

Anyone have a scann of the manual, or link? not much here on a search. What psu should I use?

It looks like it has not been used in a long time. ANy suggestions about checking it, inspection/cleaning inside before plugging it in to power? A white thin platic washer fell out of it whem I opened the back cover, What would that have been for?

It does have some old paper in it, and the small pins(?) that hold the paper in place.

Thanks

Well, that didn't work...

The 822 comes with a 9vac supply that puts out 1.7a, so you can use any of the Atari 9vac supplies.

Not a real big manual...

There are 3 versions of the 410 tape drive. The early Japanese and more common of the Hong Kong 410s have an internal power supply and plug directly into 110VAC, only the Hong Kong 410-P version uses an external +6VDC/300mA power supply.

Better put your memory in for it's bi annual checkup :)

The 410 is DC. 6V in fact.

I thought 1010 was DC and 822 was AC? My memory must be faulty.

In countries outside of the US, It maybe a different story. Have a couple of old and new of 410's here. all are 6V external.

I see the paper rolls come up from time to time on eBay. Certainly a lot more often than the actual printers. Best sells them in sets of 2 for $4.

But I wonder if the old thermal paper is any good? You know, how cheap fax machines were all thermal in the 90s and the paper faded and yellowed?

That's why I was wondering if there's some modern paper?

I liked how the 822 was so much faster (bidirectional printing was hip back them) and quieter than the 820. Anyone remember running an Atari BBS with SysOp feedback that would print out immediately on an 820? Damn noisy late-night callers!

There are still POS printers that use thermal paper, so it may be possible to find modern 4.5" width rolls compatible with the 822.
