But get this. He expected all unsold games to be smashed and throw in the dumpster. He said he witnessed a couple of hundred Genesis games disposed of this way in another store he worked at last year. I think he was on the level with me.

 

Not surprising. This was routine practice at the Electronics Boutique I worked at several years ago. Overstock stuff that didn't sell at $0.01 was destroyed with a hammer. Stuff like Toshinden CD's and Sonic and Mario carts...

 

I tried to save what I could but I think they suspected I'd take it and they pulled it off the shelves while I wasn't there

 

Did you work at the one in South Burlington? That's where I go to get games. I dunno since you're in Barre I wasn't sure.

 

For some reason, the Gamestop in this area still has a decent NES/SNES selection..though not for long. This totally sucks if it's true they're going to smash everything.

 

Nope, I worked at the one in Amherst, Mass. when I was in college. Is the South Burlington one phasing out 8/16 bit stuff? If so, I need to make a mall run. I'm STILL looking for Bass Fishing 2 for Dreamcast...

 

But it's become very difficult for me to spend any kind of money on NES stuff since I got NesterDC.

 

So far I have gotten Popeye, Pac-Man, Super Sprint and a host of other rare/close to rare NES games. If I were you, I'd check out the Gamestop. I am planning to make another run once I get paid for the stuff I sold on EBay. They are nearly all out of Genesis games. I don't buy anything else there except for PS2/Genesis/NES. I usually consult the NES rarity guide before making a run each time.

 

I figured that I had competition around here for NES carts but I dunno who else could be swiping them all up. I've seen some disappear week after week so I've been grabbing what I can before it's all gone.

Well, I finally made it back to the Funcoland and talked to the manager again. He basically confirmed what has been said by a few folks here already. He said that it went for all their affiliate stores (Gamestops, etc.), and that it was going to be national. He also said that it could happen as early as March.

 

I'm kind of disappointed that this is happening, but on the bright side, I'm hoping more of the NES stuff will make it to the pawn shops or end up at garage sales. (Probably just pump more cash into %#@* Ebay though.)

That does it. If it's official and it's national, I'm hitting every Funco/GS/etc between now and March that I can find. This 10% discount card is gonna be utterly useless after that.
