MegaManFan #2 Posted January 31, 2003 Oh yes Starscream is playing it right now! We will keep you updated!Dante is so cool! I was over at my friend Chad's apartment the other day, and started nosing through his stack of PS2 games. The word "Capcom" always catches my eye (gee what a surprise) so I pulled a "Devil May Cry" out of his stack. Here's the conversation: "Hey Chad, I see you've got Devil May Cry." "Yeah, I picked it up a month or two ago. Never finished it." "Why, is it not any good?" "Actually it looks and sounds great but it's way too hard." "No kidding?" "I got stuck after the first 15 minutes of the game and just gave up." Given this is a man who I watched unlock every single monster in Godzilla: DAMM in one night, I figured if +he+ couldn't play Devil May Cry that it was definitely NOT a game for me. Mikau #3 Posted January 31, 2003 I tried really hard to like the first DMC. I had fun at first, until the game's difficulty took over. My big question was "why don't they just give you infinite continues? I need it here!" Still a pretty cool game, I guess... I hope they fixed that in the sequel
Foxy Cleopatra #4 Posted January 31, 2003 Wait I must amend my earlier statement. Dante is not cool he is F***ING BADASS!!!!!!! You can climb up walls, shoot down at enemies when you are up in the air, bend over backwards to shoot guys behind you, so far the game is awesome! Difficulty, shmifficulty, this is what all PS2 games should be like!
Starscream #5 Posted January 31, 2003 Alright, played this for about an hour now and, well it's no secret around here that I really don't like the PS2 or it's horrible controller, but this is a must have game in my eyes. It is MUCH more difficult than the first one and way bigger. The camera angles are pretty much the same as the first one and the controls are about the same as well. Graphics look pretty much on par with all PS2 games - take that comment as you like I can't help but think whenever I play DMC and now DMC2, that if Castlevania was ever "updated", this is what it would be. I should be able to get pretty far thru it this weekend, so hopefully I'll have a little more to tell. One drawback so far though, is it seems you can't upgrade your moves like in the 1st one. If I'm stuck with this slow ass sword movement the whole game, I will not be too happy....... Now for you guys saying the 1st one was difficult, it was, but there's an easy way around it. Find a spot where you can keep getting enemies to keep spawning, and just keep killing them for a long time - about an hour or more Don't worry about your Devil rating that you get at the end of levels, just keep killing enough to buy up all the orbs, Devil Triggers, Health, moves and so on until you can kick ass. Takes some time to do but makes the game much more enjoyable
moycon #6 Posted January 31, 2003 Is there something I missing in this thread?? The first DMC was ridiculously hard??? Where do you adjust the setting to play the hard version?? As long as you stay leveled up. The 1st game was a breeze. And I'm not even a huge action gamer. But the visuals and style of this game were so awesome I've played through it like 3 times. That said...I've been a bit dissapointed to hear the reviews of the new one. Same awesome visuals and style with added perks and tweaks... But so very easy the game can be beaten in 4-6 hours. In fact the review I read said you will destroy some bosses so very quickly it'll take a second to realize...That's it. Boss all gone. There are two discs but both suffer from the same problem. Too easy and the differences in the story lines is minimal. I read the review in Electronic Gaming Monthy and I know some folks hate that mag (don't post why...I don't care) But a quick search on the net shows that other reviewers agree with that awful (to some) EGM mags review: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/384/384025p1.html http://search.gamespot.com/search/devil_may_cry_2.html That said I have to get it, I'm willing to go the DMC route again... It sounds to me to very much like the first, with a slightly crappier story (who cares) but alot less gameplay time. Don't think I'm bashing DMC. The first one is one of the best games available....But no way am I shelling out $50 for a game I can get through in a day. Someone who didn't find the first DMC to be all that hard, correct my understanding or verify that the reviews are BS. Until then I'll wait till Devil May Cry 2 hits the pre-viewed rack. Starscream #8 Posted January 31, 2003 Personaly, I didn't think DMC was difficult either. I was having so much fun playing it, that I never noticed if it was difficult I really didn't want to go into a review in my post but, I will say that it doesn't seem to be as cool as the 1st but at least to me so far, it's alot more difficult only because of Dantes limitations........ I had my reservations about it as soon as I found out that it wasn't under Mikamis direction. I remember all of the uniqueness he wanted in DMC and how important it was to him. So I guess I didn't have my hopes up in the 1st place. But,I'm still going to play it and will most likely enjoy it. I hope to be able to post that it kicks ass, but we'll see........... jjessop #9 Posted February 1, 2003 Alright, played this for about an hour now and, well it's no secret around here that I really don't like the PS2 or it's horrible controller, but this is a must have game in my eyes. I gotta ask then (curiosity, not trying to start a flame war) of what consoles controller you prefer, and why? I understand liking another controller more but have never heard the term "horrible" in conjunction with a DualShock 2 or any PlayStation (1st party) controller. oesii #11 Posted February 1, 2003 Great controller, although it took me 2 minutes of staring at it to really 'see' it.
jjessop #12 Posted February 1, 2003 It must have given you great pleasure to shove that giant picture in my face Funny how none of it's features or layout resembles a DualShock2. Them Xbox guys were real innovative with that design in particular Jerry

Jerry I love the DC controller but for the new 3, I gotta say the XB is the most comfortable to me. I know just about 99% of the world will disagree The PS1/PS2 are just flimsy feeling and are not precise. I play a ton of games and the accuracy on the PS controllers just is whack if ya ask me. I played Nightfire on all 3 and the PS2 gave me the most trouble in control areas. Same thing with quite a few other multiplatform games. Maybe it's just me.............. jjessop #15 Posted February 1, 2003 Thanks for the info. I'm not going to disagree with you....your personal preference cannot be disputed. I'm very much involved with controller designs and appreciate the honest comments. As for you MR CPUWIZ, that picture was awesome (LOL) especially now that I know the gag. If anybody else missed it, look at the picture closely guys. Jerry

Foxy Cleopatra #17 Posted February 2, 2003 Well Dante kicks ass his moves are awesome graphically I think the game looks really good, but umm game play sucks. Why they had to go and ruin a good thing I'll never know. Moycon had it right.
Foxy Cleopatra #18 Posted February 10, 2003 Starscream beat the game, and just sold it on eBay. Very disappointing, and I started with such high hopes
