godzillajoe #1 Posted August 3, 2012 OK so that other thread about Joysticks made me wanna start this thread about which movies classic gamers should see Joysticks Nightmares War Games Cloak & Dagger Grandma's Boy
Syntaxerror999 #2 Posted August 3, 2012 Ive actualy never seen nightmares and cloak and dagger. Couple move movies to add to the list are Tron, Last Starfighter, and The Wizard.
PFL #3 Posted August 3, 2012 Not really gaming films but two classic cheese-fests about computer geeks are: Dungeon Master Electric Dreams Dungeon Master is watchable if not the greatest film of all time. Electric Dreams is a proper classic IMHO. It captures the magic, hopes and dreams of the times really well and the main theme is a classic pop song too. ham #4 Posted August 4, 2012 Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade was pretty good.
GodzillaIsMyCopilot #5 Posted August 5, 2012 War Games Even casual fans of this flick should get their hands on the collector's 25th anniversary edition of this movie. I managed to snag it on DVD for about $5. It has some of the best BTS documentaries I've seen. Yes, it IS a must watch.
amiman99 #6 Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) It's not a movie, but a TV show called "Code Monkeys" on G4TV. Sometimes over the top, but funny nevertheless. http://www.g4tv.com/codemonkeys/videos.html Edited August 5, 2012 by amiman99
Animan #7 Posted August 5, 2012 Soon, Wreck-it-Ralph... unless it turns into a trainwreck of a movie (which I doubt it will).
+davidcalgary29 #8 Posted August 5, 2012 Clearly, the only must-see movie for a true Atari fan is Blade Runner. Speaking of which, I've never heard of a movie tie-in game planned by Time-Warner for any Atari system. Does anyone know if something was, in fact, in the works? godslabrat #9 Posted August 5, 2012 The Wizard Pirates of Silicon Valley
HatefulGravey #10 Posted August 5, 2012 The Wizard Pirates of Silicon Valley I can't believe The Wizard wasn't mention in the first post. A clear must see for the gamer in your life. Also: Tron (another I can't believe hasn't been mentioned yet) The King of Kong Stay Alive (Horror movie about a video game that kills) I'm sure I will think of more as soon as I click post and move away from this thread. Petran79 #14 Posted August 5, 2012 an anime called "Arcade Gamer Fubuki". it is awful though but at it is about video games.
Reaperman #15 Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) The FP. But make sure you watch it with subtitles on. The trailer was very popular here, but I get the feeling that very few of us actually bothered to see the movie. YAGRS #16 Posted August 5, 2012 What, no Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Double Dragon, or Super Mario Bros.? Mortal Kombat was at least somewhat enjoyable.
HatefulGravey #17 Posted August 5, 2012 What, no Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Double Dragon, or Super Mario Bros.? Mortal Kombat was at least somewhat enjoyable. Mortal Kombat has a special place for me too, but more because of the age I was when that movie came out and the way gaming was back then. In its own time that movie was better than it seems now. However, Street Fighter and Double Dragon were just terrible movies. Sure they were based on games, but man they were bad. There are tons of movies and shows based on fighting games that sucked though. Tekken, The Art of Fighting, Samurai Showdown, more than a few Street Fighter series, and only god knows what I'm forgetting here. Fighting games spawned a ton of not so great TV in their time. YAGRS #19 Posted August 5, 2012 However, Street Fighter and Double Dragon were just terrible movies. I never actually saw Double Dragon. It was so obviously going to be bad, Alyssa Milano or not. Since this thread is for movies classic gamers should see, I guess all the Uwe Boll movies are out. Though, I could argue that they should be seen just to marvel at how this director has not only managed to get the rights to make so many of these video game movies, but he's also managed to attract well known actors to be in them. I was really saddened to see Dave Foley in Postal. From The Kids in the Hall to that movie . . . it's just shameful.

Vic George 2K3 #24 Posted August 6, 2012 TRON, WarGames, and The Last Starfighter will always be the classics when it comes to movies about video games. I wanted to see Joysticks during the time, but when I finally got to see part of the movie, it turned out to be disposable teen crap. Also, somebody who was watching it with me confused Scramble for Cosmic Avenger. The Wizard was sort of like Rain Man with video games, just without the autistic video game pro acting like Rain Man. Impaler_26 #25 Posted August 6, 2012 Street Fighter II - The Animated Movie is actually not bad.
