+Gemintronic #1 Posted August 4, 2012 Okay, what are some video game related items you've always pined for, but then sold off once you had them? I remember always wanting a Vectrex and TurboExpress as a kid and now I never use them.

You're too much of a tinkerer to not think of the possiblities (even though you might not ever complete a project with one.)
Austin #4 Posted August 4, 2012 Just about everything I have ever had. Bad habit, I suppose.
retrorussell #5 Posted August 4, 2012 Since I had to junk my old Sega CDX I wanted another one for the longest time. Now.. nah. I'll still get Sega CD games but I run them on my emulator.
Keatah #6 Posted August 4, 2012 Once emulation matured; I only need a single PC to handle it all. But prior to that I wanted every single game and console ever made.

You're too much of a tinkerer to not think of the possiblities (even though you might not ever complete a project with one.) Nope. I returned it to the store the same night I bought it. Keatah #8 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) There's been shit I saved from 20 years ago, for example, busted plastic housings of long-forgotten video cameras or perhaps half-stripped coax cables with busted connectors and old shit from radio-shack and wire clippings from abandoned projects. Project scraps and bork'd electronics and crap. I had to get rid of it all, but I bet there's more crap hiding that no one knows about. In fact I know there is because I sealed a good portion of it and stuff it in the crawlspace and basement nooks and crannies. But I found that without the stuff bothering me I can make even better projects more creatively. Less restricted by the spectre of dead ghostly apparitions emanating from the junk pile. But, still, knowing it's there is very comforting in an aspie sort of way.. Edited August 4, 2012 by Keatah
godslabrat #9 Posted August 4, 2012 I still have everything, even some purchases which (in hindsight) weren't so wise. My top loading NES comes to mind.
+bennybingo #10 Posted August 4, 2012 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 230561710514 I always wanted one of these as a kid..saw it in the Sears Christmas catalog. Now, looking at what it really is, I know that I would be greatly disappointed...especially with a current price tag of $300+!!!
1982VideoGames #11 Posted August 4, 2012 My Super Nintendo. Played it a few times and packed it up for years until I sold it off. Like others I play the few snes games I like using the emulator.
+Gemintronic #12 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) My Super Nintendo. Played it a few times and packed it up for years until I sold it off. Like others I play the few snes games I like using the emulator. My Vectrex doesn't have something better than it out. I don't use my SNES as much because, as you mentioned, emulation exists in portable and PC form. My SNES was displaced by the Retron3 stuffed with a flash cart in every orifice. NOTE: The Retron3 wasn't supposed to support the NES PowerPak at all and the EverDrive support is weaker than a real Genesis. +davidcalgary29 #13 Posted August 5, 2012 I had my heart set on a Creepy Crawlers set when I was young, but never got one as a present. I think that I've now outgrown the urge for one. For some reason, Lite-Brite also fascinated me. It must have been a '70s thing.
d-tec #14 Posted August 5, 2012 I always wanted to have a nintendo gamecube.....now I got one and don't know what to do with it!? especially since I can do all the stuff and more on the wii
HatefulGravey #15 Posted August 5, 2012 My 3DO comes to mind. I don't regret buying it, but I wanted that thing since I first heard about it, and I am one of a few that enjoy the games style of games that were made for it. I got one, and I haven't used it at all really. I really wanted it, but I have barely used it.
retrorussell #16 Posted August 6, 2012 I used to badly want my own programmable digital reader board. Whatever goofy thing I felt like saying I could put in, and have certain animations added to it. Sounded fun, but not upwards of 500 dollars fun.
Vic George 2K3 #17 Posted August 6, 2012 A laserdisc player is probably one thing I always wanted, but no longer have any interest in, even when my mother finally got one that was used. As for game systems, it's hard to really say, except for the systems I never owned and still don't own, probably thanks to emulation.
scotty #18 Posted August 6, 2012 Atari 1450 XLD. I literally DROOLED over the pictures of it.

+Random Terrain #20 Posted August 6, 2012 I really, really, really wanted Pitfall II: Lost Caverns, but after I bought it, I found out that it wasn't the real adventure game I hoped it would be, so I took it back to the store.
desiv #21 Posted August 6, 2012 For me it was the Coleco Adam.. Wanted one back in the day... I was fairly familiar with CPM, so that was interesting.. Finally got one, and almost never used it. (Even after modded it to use a normal PSU and not having to have that printer hooked up).. I really thought it would be more interesting to me than it was... Oh well.. I traded it to a good home... More time to play Vectrex!!! :-) desiv
retrorussell #22 Posted August 7, 2012 I really wanted my own giant movie projection screen for quite a while. But I got a 60 inch tv and that's close enough.
+Ransom #24 Posted August 7, 2012 TI99/4a. I had an Atari 400 and for some reason got it in my head that it'd be better to have the 99/4a. I was wrong. Fortunately, I was able to take it back to the store and get my money back.
the antithesis #25 Posted August 8, 2012 Back in the day, I had always wanted a Colecovision. But now I look at the list of games for it and it's mostly arcade ports. I'm sure the system has its fans who could tell me of a good original game or two, but in this day of emulation, what's the point of a game that made nearly-but-not-quite arcade perfect ports?
