800XL disk drive loading issues

Recommended Posts

i'm new to the 800XL

can anyone tell me how i can format a disk in the 1050 drive?

i have the 800XL connected to the 1050 drive via the I/O cable

does it matter which port the cable goes into on the back of the 1050?

i have a couple of disks which don't autoload either so i was wondering how i can load these games?

thanks

It does not matter which port you use.

For bootable disk games, power the 1050, insert the disk, then while holding the OPTION key on the 800XL power it up.

Holding down the OPTION key disables internal BASIC.

And for unbootable disk games you may need to boot the Atari from a DOS disk first and then load the games(s) from the DOS menu or command line. If they are not BASIC games then holding down the OPTION key while booting will disable BASIC (which is usually advisable and sometimes mandatory with games written in machine language)

Make sure the drive is set to drive 1

Right. Set the drive number to 1 by pushing the two switches in the back toward the left.
