Are you a Cheater Cheater Pumpkin Eater? Why do you do it?

Recommended Posts

i cheated in Bomberman Fantasy Race (PSX) by copying my game save on a second memory card, racing my clone, and winning money from myself. within a couple of hours i was able to buy all the kangaroo and rhino (Louie and Terra) animals in the game. once you have the Black & White version of the animals, you pretty much kick ass the rest of the game.

The last time I recall cheating was when I was reviewing Turrican for the Genesis. I just wanted to see and experience the whole game, since I've been playing it since I was in high school but never got more than halfway through it. It's a shame that the game is ridiculously hard, because other than that, it's awesome.

I also always use the FUND deal on Sim City.

Maybe it's the nature of Xbox Live but as someone who has been playing Call of Duty Multiplayer on 360 Xbox Live almost DAILY for the past 5 years, and has literally months of playing time, I honestly have almost never seen cheaters.. and by that I mean "auto-aim", flying, shooting through walls, instant multi-kill, etc. It just doesn't really happen. It's been a level playing field.

On the other hand I've seen some glitch exploits such as a certain point in the map where someone could enter a rock or wall and hide out. But the difference is, that was available to everybody who was lame enough to want to do it. Or in MW2 where someone equip a rocket launcher and would blow up as soon as they died (taking out everyone around them), or the infinite care-package glitch, but those were always patched within a week. AND also, I've seen if you play a forgotten game like COD4, you see odd things like messages on the screen telling you to visit a website. Seriously.

However for the most part I have seen zero cheats that only work for the people who "have" it. And for someone like me who plays as much as I do on a single style of game (COD Multiplayer) that's gotta be saying something.

They'd get frustrated, curse a bit, and leave of their own accord after about 10 minutes of not being able to "ownz" us.

So you could hear them while the game was playing? See I guess that's odd to me since in COD, you don't hear anyone on the other team during gameplay. And I would actually love that since I'd like to hear any reaction if I happened to shoot someone (if any)

Daaaang... reading your post rekindled an oooold memory of mine. I did the same thing w/Target Earth for the Genny. Such an awesome game, but without using that (2nd controller) cheat, I can't beat the 2nd or 3rd level (the one in space shortly after the beginning). As a kid, I wanted to see what the game was all about (had rented it and wanted to maximize my buck), and I used the cheat to experience about 2/3rds of the game before quitting because I felt like I was cheating myself.

As an adult, I still cannot pass that Space level. Such an amaaaazing game imo for a multitude of reasons best left to a review, wish I could get somewhere in it!!

Thanks for your post! :)

So you could hear them while the game was playing?

I'm not so sure audio comm was available yet at that time. All of the comm we did was over in-game chat. Lots of "F*** you man! You guys suck!" clickity-clack.

Let's discuss this because I am in fact, a master debater

Uh, I think everyone will agree, there's no debate there!

If using save states is cheating then I am a serial cheater.

I think that is up to the definition of the individual. In my opinion, using save states would be considered cheating, because the games are designed to be played and beaten without saving. As a caveat, save states used for leaving and returning to a game, but not used for "die and continue", are not necessarily cheats.

Yeah, sometimes. It depends on what the game is and why I'm considering cheating. Some examples...

On Batman Arkham City: There is an achievement if you talk to Calander Man on certain days of the actual RL year. I had missed/forgotten on some days so I turned off the internet connection on my 360 so I could reset the date/time setting to different days and get the achievement. Otherwise, I'd have had to wait a whole year for the chance to talk to him on Valentine's Day (or whatever) again.

On Blazing Lazers: There is a midpoint boss during the level where it looks like you're inside a large monster/alien thing (the level with brains flying at you). It is like eight eye like things that continuously spit out eyes that home in on your location. Destroying these eyes give you points. With weapon IV maxed out (using the purple orbs, not the Full Weapon powerup), you have four balls that rotate around your ship in a circle as a kind of shield. I found I could just let my ship sit at the bottom of the screen with this weapon at this boss and the eyes would fly into the rotating shield and slowly build up points. I would get there, then turn the TV off, go to bed, go to school the next day (this was back when I was in high school), then when I would get home from school, I'd have a ton of points and the extra ships you get from points.

On Suikoden (I think it was the second one): There is a gambling game you can play that is like three card monte or something. There are three cups and a ball underneath. If you pick a low amount to bet, the cups move slowly and you can easily keep track of the cup with the ball underneath. The more you bet, the faster the cup goes. At the highest level, it's really difficult. So I ran my Playstation through my VCR and recorded it. Then I played the tape back in slow-mo to follow the cup and picked the correct one.

On Final Fantasy X: I used a Game Shark to get infinite money, then used Rikku's gil toss skill to attack enemies. Since it does damage equal to the number of gil you throw, I'd just ramp it up to all 9's. Lots of one hit kills then...

There are several games where I got stuck and tired of trying so I looked up how to get an object or where all the collection things were...

I don't cheat all the time, but sometimes I just do it for the hell of it.
