SM's Top 100 GameBoy/GameBoy Color Games of All Time

Hey guys just wanted to let you all know I've finished the first part of my new Top 100 countdown!

 

This list is dedicated to the top 100 GameBoy and GameBoy Color games released between 1989 to 2002. It contains both original black-and-white and color titles. Placement was deemed after several hundred candidates that been evaluated in a number of ways including how well each holds up today in terms of playability and enjoyment.

 

Here's the first ten games, #100 - 91! A handful of the games that made the final list are ones I wouldn't have otherwise even considered. Cheers to you, and cheers to the almighty GameBoy!

It's a good looking list so far. I can't wait until we get down to some of the really good ones. This list should be pretty good for highlighting a few oddball titles that I've missed. I've got a lot of blind spots when it comes to GBC titles specifically.

 

I had totally forgotten about Kwirk, but remember really liking it back in the days when GB emulation was all the rage--I think I'm going to have to pick up a copy.

Right on, a highly enjoyable read and a cool continuation of your top 100.

 

Dr. Mario on GB has got to be my favourite way to play Dr. Mario, and I agree with your assessment that the colour limitations of this version are never a problem for differentiating pills. While it isn't colourized like the Euro release, the Japanese Konami GB Collection Vol. 3 is a bit more affordable and maybe even on par with what Parodius alone goes for, with the added bonus of being bundled together with Belmont's Revenge, Antarctic Adventure and Yie Ar Kung Fu; altogether, it's a really neat package and even has SGB support. I didn't realize that Pac-Attack was tucked away in GBC Pac-Man, I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one!

Well, you'll definitely see my talk about Donkey Kong '94 somewhere along the road, but it won't necessarily be in the top 10. My opinions have changed somewhat since I did my original top 25 list. All of those games will reappear on this much expanded one, but they won't be in the same order. You should know that since I put Star Trek 25th in the 90s where before it was in the 20s.

 

In any case, you're in for many more surprises.

Are you saying in the Top 10 we can see a breath of fresh air and not the 'usual' Mario 1,23,110 etc.... and Zelda crap?

Then again, Mr Gimmick was a total surprize at #1 on the NES list. I also had one of those royal wtf moments while reading the Action 52 review; that was hilareous! I'd like to point out I imported several of the Famicom games on the top #100 NES list and thoroughly enjoyed them.

What I can promise is a fair and total assessment of the entire library for the GB/GBC. Exactly where everything to plan is yet to be seen.
