Has this site really been dead since May?!

Recommended Posts

Been away for a while, checked the front page and no updates since May. What gives? Is the scene dead?

Last I stopped by Boulder Dash and Moon Cresta were on the horizon

Did they get released?

Is the high score club still around?

I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Boulder Dash was released, in fact I can look at it right now :-D A great game and it's still availble in the store!

Moon Cresta for the Atari 2600? I don't know nothing about it.

And we're going to begin another high score season soon, probably in September. We had to find another moderator because Ze-ro is away for a much long time. Now LarcenTyler is our new moderator.

Nope, it's not dead. A forum is only truly dead when it's members stop posting regularly, or you see it's domain up for sale...

And Atari collecting ain't dead either. I'm relatively new on the scene and have experienced the joys of collecting. In the past, I dismissed Atari, but that was before I gave it a try.

Its alive and kicking. Albert was just way too busy with other things in RL and AA.

Seems still pretty active...love coming in here every day and checking things out. Recently got back into the Atari 2600 myself and have been enjoying regular gaming sessions.

Dead? Hardly - Al's just been busy.

Space Rocks, my asteroids remake, is in the end stages. This is the most recent video I've made. My camera got boxed up on accident while cleaning house and I need to track it down so I can make a current one. Jump to 1:57 if you wish to skip the menu overview:

It's kind of an old abandoned wearhouse out front but the party is going on inside.

That's true. So all the rifraff won't come in, only those that know the secret code?

WOW! Impresive work. VCS astroids was ok, but lacked true arcade physics... and the vector hack just looked plain ugly. Considered doing a "Space Duel" mode where the rocks are replaced with the trippy objects in space duel?

Thanks!

I did, but there's no room for another set of graphics (plus I don't think we could have done Space Duel justice with 8 pixel monochrome sprites). I was planning a 2-player tethered option, but ran out of ROM for that as well. The game consists of 16K of ARM code, 4K of 6507 code and 8K of data. The large asteroids alone take up over 2K of ROM (there's vector and solid images, the solid images are always used for the software based collision detection, even if the vector images are what's displayed). The final 4K in the ROM is the 3K DPC+ driver for the Harmony/Melody board plus 1K of additional data.

If you want the riffraff to stay out, then I suppose I'd better leave. :)

I've been on the main site quite a few times looking up instructions and whatnot. I'll dig into my collection and grab something like Crypts of Chaos or Laser Gates that I didn't have when I was a kid, and I have to come here for the instructions. Seems as if some of the stuff on the main site hasn't been updated, but the good stuff is definitely still there.

Then, of course, there's this forum, which still seems to be quite active. I may even drop in for the new HSC when it starts. I've got enough carts that I could probably play only the games I have and still stay competitive.

There's actually a bar/nightclub in my hometown called the "Warehouse". I've been there once, and I believe it used to be one too.

What everyone else said. Basically Al has been too busy to update the front page, but beyond that AA is still as active as it ever was.

Good to know. I'm looking forward to the new HSC. Haven't played Atari in months.

I am very excited myself for the high score club. I finally got a dedicated streaming station set up at the house, so I plan on streaming all of my adventures of the high score club. :D

Oh, just now that I'm wanting to record all my game plays...

Well, it seems we're going to have two players recording this season.

But I can't do this via living stream. I only record and public them in youtube.

You can see my videos in my AtariAge blog and in the poor blog I update in blogspot that is in my signature.

I've been wanting to do a weekly streaming show, ever since I caught the bug a few years ago. I just finally have had a permanent setup, so its not painfully daunting to stream every time I want to. I'm sorry... :(

There's one that I went to for World of Ravecraft (I helped stream the event online so other ravers can listen to it who couldn't make it), and it was held at a place called the Warehouse. Its in Kittanning, PA. Its pretty neat inside. Its an under 21 club, so there's no alcohol there allowed. When I didn't have to change whoever was DJing, I went across the street to the bar for a bit. :D

That's cool. We can compare scores and playing styles, strategies etc.

It brings us more close to a group playing in the same room.

And I'm looking foward to seeing future development from Javatari, maybe we can play playoffs someday...

I like it because I can sneak up behind him and slap him in the face with my wiener (live on the Internet).
