Sony has killed Psygnosis...

They picked them up in 1993. Its impressive they kept them functional and very productive for this long.

 

I've always loved the work they did on Sony's consoles as well as the computer stuff before that (C64 for me). Too many games to mention.

 

Studio Liverpool will be missed.

 

 

So much for hoping for another Colony Wars.

 

That's about the only thing that could have brought me into new Sony hardware.

 

 

Who knows maybe Colony Wars will be picked up (as well as Wipeout) by someone else etc....

I never got Red Sun. I wonder if I should track that down now......

I do feel they lost their way and innovation. What have they done between Wipeout Pure (PSP) and the latest PS Vita Wipeout?

 

They did a racing game similar to Hang On for the Amiga, it was actually really good. And of course Shadow of the Beast was one hell of an amazing sounding and looking game on a stock 512kb Amiga. Even the FM Towns Marty version was c0ck compared to the A/Vs of the Amiga original. Some real genius coding by Reflections.

I know this will get some to pull out pitchforks and torches, but I always felt that the box artwork (Usually Roger Dean) was way more innovative than the games that came in them.

 

However, I will say that I really, really liked Drakan: Order of the Flame. Great looking open-world game, and you got to fly around on a dragon. Fun stuff.

You can try making it into good a game, but it won’t work - not even if you try your hardest, not even if you spend millions of dollars. Magna Cum Laude proved that. That’s because all the original people are gone. The company went into a death spiral when everybody left. With the accounting irregularities, then the selling of the name, it was just a terrible mess. As for a real company of people answering phones by saying ‘Hi, we are Sierra,’ that stopped on August 27th 2004.”
