Mark Wolfe #101 Posted November 6, 2012 that is so funny, i just asked my buddy here atari2atari and he answered me with a detailed response for which i was grateful, here is part of that response: Standalone has all the "core" plugins for OTHER emulators, such as Atari 2600 and others. It also LACKS any ROMs and "pointers" (as per this:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jPfLODaGO7E3JdVzJxI0NXVCuFXrB-6ERTXdThN1qh0/edit?pli=1 The user is left to correctly populate a "Standalone" build with the ROMs they want, as well as get the configuration "right." Other differences in a "Standalone" version . . . are obfuscated, courtesy of BP. There might be performance differences, is one thing I have gleaned. Such as, "Complete" is optimized for certain games at the expense of others, and vice-versa in "Standalone."
NE146 #102 Posted November 7, 2012 Finally got around to unpacking the thing.. 66 gigs with 21,204 files in it. That will take a while to transfer wanna sell any of them to me? PM me with your zipocode if so and I'll make an offer or trade or both hehe I like to keep them all. I mean I got them all (about $20/each) intentionally to use as media servers and that's exactly what they are. They don't do hi-def all that great but I still like having them around. Mark Wolfe #103 Posted November 7, 2012 you keep 11 xboxes connected together for media server use? that's kinda nutty.... you know... just sayin'
NE146 #104 Posted November 7, 2012 you keep 11 xboxes connected together for media server use? that's kinda nutty.... you know... just sayin' haha no I got ~6 at any one time on whatever tv's are around (entertainment room, kids room, main room, tiny office tv, bedroom, spare bedroom, etc.). The rest are like spares as needed. Some the DVD drive doesn't work. Some are my old chipped ones. It just is what it is. I actually used to softmod and then totally deck out xboxes for AA's for 100% free (they pay shipping back/forth) but I had to stop because too many people I didn't know started messaging me
Mark Wolfe #105 Posted November 7, 2012 that is starting to happen to me actually. hd to raise prices a little bit. I use a roku for hi def media streaming, et al... cheap and works great, easily moved when needed in another room or get two or can be tied to a wireless sysetm if all TVs are o same system
NE146 #106 Posted November 7, 2012 I use a roku for hi def media streaming, et al... cheap and works great, Can you stream xvids/mkv/etc and most formats etc.from a simple share or a NAS to a roku player right out of the box? I use a 360 for hi-def streaming either from a pc running ps3media or tv-versity. I miss just straightforward simple streaming without any extra software like we could with an xbox or if I built a HTPC myself.. that's what made the xbox1 so nice. It was self contained and $20 each. I aint about to build an htpc's to stream thomas the train flicks to my kids playroom tv. But if Roku does that immediately, and was compatible with most formats that'd be nice
Goochman #108 Posted November 7, 2012 I got an Iomega x2-200 istore NAS to use as my media server. My XBox, XBox360, PS3, Wii, BluRay player, Sonos all work from it - no more leaving a PC on running TVersity with a bunch of USB drives hanging off it
NE146 #109 Posted November 7, 2012 Well I got about 6Tb total on just one of my boxes, about 4 on another.. so no USB drives. But yeah man, being forced to use tversity to stream to the 360 blows. It's a great thing now with streaming media appliances finally coming into their own on the market over the past few years, but you gotta keep on top of it. I'll have to check out that iomega now. I guess I don't understand when you say everything works from it. Would an xbox as well as a 360 be able to play a hi def MKV or MP4 off it? Or does the 360 work better? Does the Iomega do it's own transcoding ala tversity/ps3media? I'm assuming that would be the case? i.e. it's not a simple share and the wii, 360, xbox, blurary plays all formats hosted on the device natively. That correct? Mark Wolfe #110 Posted November 7, 2012 NE146: have you tried Dragon media server yet since you are the xbox media server guru? BP is behind that as well and I hear r9 is coming
NE146 #111 Posted November 7, 2012 (edited) I wouldn't call myself a Guru.. rather moreso, a "user" but no, I've never even heard of Dragon media server. What is it? Edited November 7, 2012 by NE146
Mark Wolfe #112 Posted November 7, 2012 it is for xbox media server what coinops did for mamex, done by the same guy http://coinopsproject.freeforums.org/dragon-media-launcher-f35.html as all sorts of additions and cool shit apparently.. I don't use the xbox for anything but emulation and for that it is a powerhouse but Dragon is for cats who wanna stream media from an xbox and have extra abilities that XBMC does not offer
Goochman #113 Posted November 8, 2012 NE146 - the IOMega NASs comes with Twonky as a Media Server - it provides a basic DLNA service. My XBOX just connected as a 'shared drive' and would play whatever I selected. The PS3, 360, Sonos, and BluRay used the DLNA connection to the media server - no mapping required. I have 3 of them myself. Ditto on the "unknown people messaging me". I get random users wanting a FreeMcBoot installation. It hasn't been too bad so I will continue to do the favor since it doesn't take much time for me.
MagitekAngel #115 Posted November 11, 2012 All this talk about how awesome CoinOps is got me curious, so my brother and I found an 8 dollar Xbox, hotswapped it, put a 160 GB drive on it, and put CoinOps on it. When I get home, we'll playtest it (re: stay up to an irresponsible hour with alcohol and games) and a good time will be had by all.
Rex Dart #116 Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) here is where we are discussing COINOPS How can I configure the X68K core in CoinOps4? It's drawing outside the screen borders, and I need to map more buttons to the gamepad. Edited November 18, 2012 by Rex Dart
Mark Wolfe #117 Posted November 20, 2012 you need to unlock ADVANCED SETTINGS, open CO4, click start to get into setting, scroll down to advanced, then UNLOCK them. scroll through options, should be self explanatory.
