Retro Gamer Issue 106: interesting A8 content

Recommended Posts

Another interesting issue.

A8's content:

In the 30 years of the Commodore 64 article, Archer MacLean (Dropzone, International Karate, IK+) is interviewed.
What made it different [the C64] from other machines?
When the C64 came along in Europe, it was fresh and new and had a big marketing campaign that openly boasted around sprites, the SID chip and how 64KB of RAM was going to do wonders for games.
The C64 quickly established itself as market leader in Europe and it therefore made commercial sense to develop games on the C64.
C64 sprites were certainly easier to use and more versatile than the Atari system, even if it did lack some of the Atari's amazing graphical hardware.

In the Homebrew section, Jason reviewed Line Runner.

In Julian Rignall (Zzap!64, C&VG, IGN, GamePro... journalist) interview, he said that to get the job at Zzap!64 he lied because at the time he didn't have a C64 but an Atari.
When being asked questions about the C64 games he was playing, he just talked about the Atari games the he played that were also on the C64.
