JUGS Gameserver + Cat Box??

Micky

Recommended Posts

Hi lads & ladies,

I'm a Battlesphere Gold owner :) ... and a bloody

beginner regarding the use of the JUGS Gameserver :ponder:

Does Scatologics JUGS also works with the Cat-Box?

I don't own a JAG-LINK Interface and there's no chance

to get one because it's sold out throughout Germany.

Furthermore I don't exactly know which homebrew Jaguar

games work with JUGS. Whereof one can identify those

files? Could the extender of those files be a hint (like

filenames ending with *.bin / *.jag / *.gen / *.abs / *.rom)?

:?

And how to upload these games to the Jaguar? Can I use

"Hyper-Terminal" which is included in the systemsoftware

of any normal M$-Wintel-PC? Or what software I have to

use to manage the uploads?

Thanx for your help and reply in advance

Micky

The software that manages the uploads is included in the JUGS software disk as well as instructions on uploading. Most Jag files will work, but some have to be converted to the proper format and the programs for this are included on the JUGS disk or can be downloaded from the JUGS site or other sites such as Jaguar-64.de or Starcat developments site or Justclaws site, Devcats site, etc. Many of these sites have links in the "links" section here at AtariAge under "Jaguar."

JUGS does not work with the catbox, only Jaglink. Have you looked for the Jaglink on the Internet on sites OTHER than in Germany? Most places will ship to Germany without any problems. Look under "dealers" in the "Links" section here at AtariAge for dealers who stock the Jaglink.

Hello Gunstar,

thanx for your friendly help.

OK - I have to check this again but for the first moment I couldn't

reach and find the software ... :ponder:

Yo man, I did this already and only found an original ATARI-made

JAG-LINK at B&C Computer Visions....

BTW: I have two (2!) brand-new, original packed and unopened

Cat-Boxes :D

Well, your still out of luck with those catboxes and jugs...that original jaglink at B&C is the ONLY one there is...that's the one you need for JUGS and also for networking Doom, Battlesphere and aircars, although the catboxes will work with the networking of course, just not with JUGS. I'll buy one or both of those catboxes off of you and throw in my Jaglink for free... :)

JUGS will load just fine if you use the Catbox's RS-232 Port and an RS-232 cable to your PC.

sorry, I did not know that, I don't remember reading anything about that in the documentation, otherwise I may never have traded away my single catbox that I thought was basically useless without a second one(excepting the video&audio connections).

You'd better be using a legal copy of the JUGS loader however...

Umm... what technically is JUGS? Is it just the Software thats part of the BS cart, and the pc software, or is there a hardware element too? I would have thought the cable adapter that connects the jaglink to a pc serial port is just a simple gender-changer like device. It would only matter then if its official if it has more complex hardware in it, right?

Hello

I'm still experimenting with my JUGS Gameserver.

Until now, it's not running :ponder:

One question (just to be sure):

WHERE TO INSERT THE JUGS CD???

Into the PC or Jaguar???

I can't find any information about this neither

on the JUGS info-website @ battlesphere.com

nor at any other places.

And please don't laugh about - I'm a bloody

beginner ...

---------------------------------------------------

Here is my step-by-step report of yesterdays night:

- 1 -

I bought a new null-Modem-cable yesterday

It consists of 2x female DB9 plugs/connectors

- 2 -

Then I set up my Jaguar:

- BSgold Cartridge into the Cartridge port

- JUGS CD into the toilette

- Joypad to Joystick port No.1

- plug Cat-Box into the Jaguars rear side

- connect SC1435 Color Monitor to Catbox

- connect Audio to the SC1435

- 3 -

Then I prepared a MS DOS Bootdisc for my PC

(format the HD-floppy with activated option

"MS DOS Startdiskette herstellen")

- 4 -

After this was finished, I connected both

systems together using the Cat-Box RS 232

male Modem connector and the PC's serial

Modem COM port. This was done by using the

new null-Modem-cable

- 5 -

Now I inserted the MS DOS Bootdisc to the

Floppystation and put both systems into operation.

- 6 -

After booting was finished my Wintel-PC shows an

"A:" accurately and a flashing cursor

- 7 -

Now I went over to the Jaguar and navigate the

menus to reach the "Gameplay Options" screen

- 8 -

I typed in the JUGS "access code" which is printed

on the JUGS CD label - the Jaguar confirms with

a voice saying "awesome"

- 9 -

Then I decided to activate JUGS by pressing and

holding the keypad combination code which is

also printed on the JUGS CD label.

A new menu appears which shows some modem

parameters like Baud-rate, Parity, Stop-Bit, ...

- 10 -

To know which modem parameter are compatible

with the current setting of my PC COM port

I checked out my Windows Device Manager.

At this point I stopped all further experiments

because it says that my DB 9 serial COM port

uses the PCI Bus ... :x ... shit happens ...

OK, based on that what is mentioned @ the

JUGS infosite at battlesphere.com I first have

to search for an old computer now

... kind of exhausting ...

--------------------------------------------------------

Thanx for your hints

1) the JUGS cd goes in the PC, all software for the Jag end is in the BS cart, all software for the PC end is on the JUGS cd and should be installed in your PC's C: drive (assuming that is your harddrive) take a llok at the JUGS cd on you PC and you will find folders with instruction files to print out, the loader program and a ton of other stuff.

2) JUGS loader program runs under MS-DOS. It can be accessed via the command line in windows and an MS-DOS window will pop up in windows.

3) hope this helps. Also, even if you need to get another older PC, go ahead and check out the JUGS cd in your current PC. It needs to be looked through so you know what is on it and get the instructions off of it which will explain everything. LOOK AT THE JUGS DISC ON YOUR PC-THIS IS IMPORTANT. YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING BUY READING THE INSTRUCTIONS.

...

No. There are JUGS around without being created in our factory.

I own a JagLink -> serial port converter...does this mean I'm infringing something? Maybe you should explain what exactly you mean when you say JUGS - I'm not using your software on either side of the connection and I have no clue if my adaptor is compatible with yours (and frankly, I couldn't care less, it works perfectly well for my uses) but I'm not going to be a happy bunny if you try and claim I can't hack up my own stuff.

The JUGS loader and CD utilities are copyrighted. If you are using a COPY of the JUGS loader or utility which you didn't buy then you are using an illegal copy.

From what you said it doesn't sound like you are using the software, so there's no problem I can see.

I was referring to people making copies of the JUGS loader and whatnot.
