NKG #1 Posted September 22, 2012 Hi Guys, Sad day my old tutankham cart that i have had since 86 has given up the ghost is there any chance of reviving it? the label is long since gone and have opened up the case and have two chips tms4732-45nl & tms4764-45nl. I have all the tools needed from back when i collected arcade goodness. Any help would be very much appreciated
sqoon #2 Posted September 22, 2012 What is "given up the ghost"? Black screen, some visuals but garbled, no sound? I bought a copy recently from ebay that was garbled graphics no matter what I tried. Eraser on the contacts followed by alcohol is the normal fix, but it did no good on this one. I sent it back and the seller said they could not get it working either. sqoon #4 Posted September 22, 2012 If your other games work fine on that console and you've tried all the cleaning tricks, then it is most likely dead. When you had the cartridge case apart, was there a capacitor or two on the game PCB? It is possible that on board components can go bad, but most often with a black screen it is the PROM chip. ColecoDan #5 Posted September 22, 2012 It is also possible that it just needs some re-soldering thats how someone fixed one of my games.
NIAD #6 Posted September 23, 2012 Probably a bad solder joint/cold solder joint on one or more of the PROM pins that connect to the cartridge PCB. As ColecoDan stated, these problems can be fixed by someone with the proper tools and abilities if you are not able to handle the job of desoldering the PROMs from the PCB, cleaning the PCB and PROM pins properly and resoldering the PROMs back onto the PCB. Unfortunately there are no guarantees that this will indeed fix the problems as maybe there is another issue like PCB traces or edge connector contacts, but it's a start. If all else fails, a loose Tutankham cartridge is pretty easily had via numerous sources such as eBay or even Mumbai's CV cart sale thread in the MarketPlace Forum... just do a search for Mumbai. Never mind, I found the sales thread and Mumbai does indeed have it for $9.00, but you will have to PM him to see if he will ship overseas. Follow this link: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/168225-fs-colecovision-cartridges/page__hl__%20mumbai You may also want to look into the AtariMax Ultimate SD Cart at www.atarimax.com. With this Multi-Cart, you can copy all the rom images that are easily found on the Web to the SD Card and play them thru this cartridge. It costs about $130, but you also get two free "newer" homebrew games that make the cost well worth it!
