Trip_Cannon #1 Posted October 1, 2012 Lately I've seen about a thousand different "all-in-one" Genesis systems all over Amazon, eBay, and even a couple at my local Walgreens... All of them little bit different with the style of control, how many games are included (20 all the way up to 80 games)... I was wondering what the user experience around here has been like... Anybody have any recommendations? Any one better than the other? How about the portable units? Do they hold up well? Any others I should be looking at? Thanks! Rex Dart #2 Posted October 1, 2012 As far as the non-portable units are concerned... why not just get a real Genesis? Then you wouldn't have (as m)any sound quality or compatibility concerns.
Trip_Cannon #3 Posted October 1, 2012 I was thinking about purchasing one for my girlfriend... Something new and simple without having to worry about scrounging up a bunch of cartridges from the internet... but I want quality and the build to be good... goldenegg #4 Posted October 1, 2012 ... but I want quality and the build to be good... So that pretty much rules out clone hardware. Does your girlfriend have a computer? Just install an emulator (preferably Kega Fusion) and dump all the ROM in a folder for her to access.

I haven't heard of a clone genesis that includes built-in games & doesn't have terrible audio.

I'm not trying to be sexist or stereotypical here but she's a girl who, well, isn't all that technical... If it were me I'd want a nice emu setup (which I do) but for her I was looking for something a little less involved..
Rex Dart #7 Posted October 1, 2012 (edited) Well, if she isn't picky about audio quality, then hopefully somebody who has some experience with clone consoles can chime in & recommend one with decent build quality. I stay away & use emulators, or my Model 1 + Everdrive. A USB controller & well-setup emu combo isn't overly techincal, at least. Double-click the game's ROM & you're playing. madmax2069 #8 Posted October 1, 2012 (edited) From what I hear the yobo FC 3 Plus (newer revisions) has good compatibility with Genesis games, plus it has nes and SNES slots as well http://www.dascheap.com/fc3-plus-gaming-system-charcoal-nes-snes-genesis.html . If you want 100 compatibility you are better off just getting a real model 1 Genesis, they can be found everywhere and can be bought for a cheaper price (most of the times).
