serial stopped on my Atari 800?

Recommended Posts

I guess after all the BBSing over the years the serial functions on my Atari 800 stopped working. Couldn't talk to the modem/Lantronix with either Bobterm (usually works no matter what) or Flickerterm.

Swapped out 800s and it worked fine.

So apparently the chip handling the serial functions has gone out.

So jog my memory since it has been years since I have done this fix (probably 2005ish): which chip do I need to replace at this point?

"The LSI chip has 40 pins and is identified as C012294. POKEY"

Looks like a Pokey has gone out. I was thinking that, but wasn't sure. Again, been a moment. :)

Yeh luckily a lot of the chips on the 800 are socketed. And in the whole time I have been BBSing on the 400/800 (1982-1991 / 1999-2012) I have had to replace the pokey twice. :)
