PFL #1 Posted October 10, 2012 I just got a light sixer this morning. It has a problem though. When I switch it on with no joystick plugged in the picture is crystal clear. However, when a joystick is plugged in there is interference on the screen (kind of like when a hair dryer is on). Of course, I've switched the system off when plugging or unplugging the joystick. I've also tried different sticks, a different PSU and a different coax lead. It's a PAL CX2600 U and I'm in the UK so it's not a channel switch issue. Any ideas? yllawwally #2 Posted October 10, 2012 I would say it's probably the 7805 or the chicklet capacitors They both are cheap, and pretty easy to replace if you're handy with a soldering iron. The caps are little green things that look like chicklets, and I think they are .22uf 100v. The 7805 is right next to the power connector. It a black square with three legs. PFL #3 Posted October 10, 2012 Thanks for your help. Are these what I'm looking for? 7805: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2FV-REG-5-0V-TO-220-3-340-NATIONAL-SEMICONDUCTOR-LM340T-5-0-%2F390456135926%3Fpt%3DUK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET%26hash%3Ditem5ae8ffd0f6%23ht_702wt_1140 Capacitors: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2FMetallised-Polyester-Capacitor-100V-0-22uF-10-Pack-%2F300782704231%3Fpt%3DUK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET%26hash%3Ditem46080bd667%23ht_1699wt_907
yllawwally #5 Posted October 10, 2012 The capacitors aren't polarized so it doesn't matter which leg goes in which whole, when replacing. However when you replace the 7805 make sure it faces the same direction as the original one.
PFL #6 Posted October 10, 2012 Cool. Thanks guys. Just one more question though. What's most likely to be at fault here? The caps look a little awkward to get into so I'm kind of hoping that just replacing the 7805 will rectify (see what I did there?) the problem. Of course, I'd do the caps too if I have too but I'd rather try one thing at a time.
mtshark7 #7 Posted October 10, 2012 I'd replace the 7805 voltage regulator first.
