Recommended Posts

I would have to say for console:between the Nes,Turbografx-16,and MasterSystem , and for modern the PS3 or Xbox 360.For handheld would be the Gameboy,Gamegear or Gameboy Advance and for modern the DS,PSP or PSvita.

Retro: Atari 2600/7800

Modern: Wii (cuz it runs emulators nicely for retro systems) + some good modern games

Retro, it's really hard to pick a favorite. 7800 for now because I've been paying a lot of 2600 games, but it changes week to week.

Modern, none. This is by far my least favorite generation. If I had to pick one I'd say Wii - I spent way more time with that than my 360. Never got around to getting a PS3, and don't plan on it.

Handheld is easy, since even though I've owned a whole bunch the only one I ever spent any serious time with, and the only one I really enjoyed playing is the Nintendo DS.

Retro: 7800 (so much potential, and it plays 2600 games!)

Modern: Xbox 360 - it's just been great how the whole family has gathered around the 360, friends for game nights, etc. Way more game time played than just my own personal gaming sessions. And that doesn't even count the thousands of hours logged playing media (Netflix, Hulu Plus, streaming music, etc). Today just spent an hour with my youngest playing the new Kinect Sesame Street, and she had a blast. Priceless!

Honorable Mention: Gamecube - love that system. My buddy came over last night and him, me, my wife and my oldest played Pac Man Vs while my youngest had fun and chuckled watching us. I think until we move back to Rayman Origins this is our new game night activity for when he comes over. It's a great time! And of course that's not even counting all the 'me' games I love playing on this system.

Favorite retro: It's a tie between the 2600, Intellivision, Colecovision, 7800, NES, Game Boy, Genesis, Lynx, SuperNES, and SegaCD.

Favorite modern: It's a tie between the PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, GameBoy Advance, GameCube, Nintendo DS, and Wii.

Retro: Again the 7800. It's flimsy plastic and finicky console controls are more than made up for by the additional 7800-only games. Now if we're considering systems by library only, then my vote goes to the 2600 instead even though there are several very enjoyable 7800 titles out there.

Modern: PSP without even looking at anything else. I've been seriously considering a Vita as well, based on how much I like the PSP. I'm not really interested in either for the games, but fpr me, PSP is THE mp3 player of choice. It's more compact than a laptop, yet very easy to use. Another thing ithas going for it is that, for a gamer, the controls are just natural. If I buy a new, more modern mp3 player in the near future, it will, without a doubt, be a PS Vita. That might be a while, though, as my PSP Slim still has plenty of life left in it.

ColecoVision with a 2600 expansion for classic.

Anything that plays Pac-Man Championship Edition DX for modern.

I just got Intellivision Lives! for the DS, so I guess it wins both classic and modern in the handheld category.

Yeah. I think most of us judge a system by the software instead of the hardware itself. Take the PSP: It has component out. It's pretty much permanently jailbroken since they found the keys. You can even find wireless joysticks for it. The software though? Almost everything I enjoy is a PS2 port..

Retro Console and handheld: Atari Prosystem and Game Boy Advance SP Model Number AGS-101.

Modern Console and handheld: Backwards compatible PS3 and 3DS XL.

With those I can play Atari VCS, Atari Prosystem, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. That gives me 10 libraries of games with a variety I like with only 4 systems. If I had to pick 2 consoles, 2 handhelds, and sell everything else then these would probably be what I would choose. But I would never make that choice.

Retro: 7800. This was a bit tough, as I have memories of the Intellivision, while the 7800 and Colecovision have my attention at the moment.

Modern: Xbox 360. PS3 is a strong contender, but I prefer the 360's controller. And the 360 doesn't annoy me quite as much with lengthy updates + installations.
