Gamecube Rocks !

Recommended Posts

I finally made a decision after much consultation on this forum and bought the Gamecube and I LOVE IT ! This is only the second game console I have ever owned, the other being an Atari 2600. Yes, I have played a PS2 and XBox here and there. For my first carts, I mean disk, I got SSX Tricky - Great Fun ! and Metroid Prime which I looked at briefly and will start seriously very soon. It was hard to choose as the PS2 which has so many games, but the GC has more great games already than I will ever buy, so it did not matter. The XBox was sweet, but the games reminded me too much of what I see for my PC and paying a service for XBox live seemed silly when I online game for free on my PC. Maybe because the XBox is a PC :D and I can not see helping Microsoft take over the planet , so I ruled it out. The Cube is awesome, I hooked it up in my home theater and have enjoyed Dolby PLII pumping out my 5.1 speaks and soon a I get the S-Video cable and have progressive scan video with some games. The PS2 and Xbox would have also been great, but I am very happy with the cube. Also, it is so small and easy to set in my A/V stack and looks great. Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I am quite happy ! :D :D :D

Nice to see somebody give the system a thumbs up. I'm still wowed by it months after getting it. Crisp graphics, quick loading, TINY DISKS :o and controllers that feel incredibly comfortable in your hand. Put yourself in front of a Cube with a good game and it's hard to call it quits!

He said he got SSX Tricky & Metroid Prime.

I think you'll really enjoy the GC. All the systems have their pluses, we've found a few more in the GC than the others (although the GTA's help the PS2's case alot!)

If you ever want to borrow some games to test before you buy, Sauron and I are in Austin and have a pretty big GC collection, we'd be happy to let you borrow some.

Due to being filthy stinking broke, I haven't yet gotten any of the new systems (aside from a GBA)... but I'm thinking that when the time comes, it'll be a Gamecube.

Most of the new games that I want are games that are available for all the systems... like NHL 2K3 and Tony Hawk 4 and such... and frankly, none of the PS2 or X-Box exclusives seem all that interesting to me. I'm not interested at all in games like DOA Volleyball, Devil May Cry, Halo, or even Grand Theft Auto. I'd much rather have Mario games. And with Jeff Minter working on Unity, it's only looking better. Now if only Nintendo would get off their butts and program Mario Kart Cube...

Also, I can't in good consience support companies like Microsoft and Sony. Maybe it's just me, and maybe I'm just old fashioned... but doesn't anyone show loyalty to video game companies anymore? I'm not the biggest fan of Nintendo, but I'd rather support them than the evil juggernauts that MS and Sony have been over the years. This is also one of the reasons I bought a Dreamcast, since I had a lot more respect for Sega than most of the companies out there.

The only thing that pisses me off about the GC is all this annoying GBA-GC link crap that Nintendo has been pulling. It's a good idea, but if Nintendo is locking out stuff so that the only way you can get it is if you have both systems, then that's pretty slimy.

A point missed by a lot of people.

Congratulations. Now go pre-order The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker whiles there's still time to get the bonus disc!

Go!

Go!

Are you still here?

Go!

:D

For our talk, I must take you to your town, any town. A police station. Activity of the day or night.

I'm glad I did mine last month. I overheard the clerk at EB telling someone they were going to stop taking any more pre-orders for it.

How cool! Wish I lived in Austin... There just isn't any of "us" out here in Indiana.

I love my game cube... Spent much time with SuperMonkeyBall - Rogue Squadron - and, of late, Res. Evil 0 and Animal Crossing.

DO invest in a Wavebird! I can't tell ya how nice it is to NOT worry about that cord! They're awfully well made, as well. Good stuff!

you should move to texas, aside from the weather and the drivers you would like it here.

Any state that many retro-gamers live in, let alone the two Al's, can't be all bad. :D

Great, I have "only" 2 games, Starfox Adventures and SMS. Both are great fun.

Thanks, Very Generous of you y'all ! (excuse my language; we are in Texas) Your recommendation MacGurl have become my shopping list !

Hopefully someday we will have an Atari gathering in Austin (Come on down friends elsewhere) and I can thank you for your recommended game list again. I will not borrow as I tend to not return things :D :D

Thanks To Everyone Again and I will go preorder Zelda at EB if they let me ! :D

I've been discussing an Atari gathering with various people for quite a while now. Perhaps it will become a reality soon! :D

If EB doesn't let you preorder, you may want to try GameStop. That's where I have mine preordered. BTW, whereabouts in Austin are you located?

I have 2 games for my brand spanking new Gamecube..

The Sonic Mega-Collection (great games) and Pac-Man World 2, which I am thoroughly enjoying.

My only complaint is the tedium required to unlock the hidden games in the Sonic collection... C'mon. Opening each game 50 times, and then starting the game 50 times?

I'm waiting till May when the Gameboy player attachment comes out (hoping there'll be a package deal). That will make four more game types I can play on the tv: GC/GB/GBC/GBA

You have Sega Master System for your Gamecube?

Sorry, I have to pick on re-use of acronyms :P Sega had it first.

I like my Cube. So far I own: Rogue Leader, Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk 3, and Sega's Beach Spikers. I like 'em all. Love the decent load times and the visuals.

MY BIG FAT GEEK EDIT -- I forgot to mention I own the incredible Super Monkey Ball!!! :x

if you have a best buy in your area, go there and pick up a copy of beach spikers, its 10 bucks, and is a great value. the only other must own is Super Monkey Ball. Despite 3D eye candy, its got loads of old skool gameplay and a crapload of minigames that are a blast to play with other people. (monkey Target is so much fun)
