Whatever happened to the ABBUC entry XL7 Accelerator?

Recommended Posts

My recollection was that ABBUC wanted a 6502 added to the 65C816 for improved compatibility and of course wanted it to fit in more than just a 1200XL. Guus Assmann got internal BASIC working and IIRC, got it working in an XE?, but (last I heard) there were no other enhancements. (?)

Was there any other progress? Got shelved? Maybe will show up at this year's ABBUC meeting (October 27, 2012 ?) .

Hello Larry,

There has been (almost) no progress.

I ran into some timing issues and have not been able to solve these yet.

But I won't give up. It will take a while however until I can spend some more time.

One of the problems is that some changes to the CPLD do work fine in the emulation, but not in real life.

This is very puzzling and might need a logic analizer to get it sorted out.

Hi Guus-

Saw a reference (and pic) to an "in development" entry by you at ABBUC 2011. Where did you end up with features/timing issues? The fact that you got the PBI working is very noteworthy, I think!

BTW, I used Google to translate the page, and it is amazing how much improved the "machine translations" have improved.

Regards,

Larry

Hello Larry,

There's not been progress.

What I did was test the part in en XL and XE. That works just fine.

And I managed to get Basic, or 8K game and the OS in one chip. Correct switching logic included.

Then, I tried to get both 8Mhz and standard speed to run, depending on a switch setting.

And that I can't get to go. It should be very simple and straightforward, but it's not.

One bottleneck is also the development software. I ran into some strange inconsistency's.

This means I'm at the point where I need to get a logic analyser. And that's still quite expensive.
