segagamer99 #1 Posted October 20, 2012 Hey guys, This post is probably in the wrong section, but many of you might own the Gulkave ColecoVision homebrew? I have it for SG-1000 and I love it(thanks Pixelboy). I have heard that there is an MSX version with 2 extra stages(32 instead of 30) and other things. What differences are between the MSX and SG-1000 versions, and how come the SG-1000 version was converted? Thanks.
+opcode #2 Posted October 20, 2012 Considering that the game has a Sega copyright, I would say it was originally released for the SG-1000 and then ported for the MSX by Pony. However Compile has a history of improving their games for the MSX, like they did with Aleste, thus the two extra stages. And I believe that was possible because the MSX BIOS saved them a few bytes. segagamer99 #3 Posted October 21, 2012 Ok well I just played the Sg-1000 version and the emulated MSX version online. The MSX version has much less enemies on screen, so it is pathetically easier. I also only played up to stage 2 in MSX Gulkave, and and Stage 1 has a red background instead of blue. I still wonder if there are more differences though. +opcode #4 Posted October 21, 2012 That is because the two extra stages are actually the first two stages. And they are in fact easier. I guess a few people complained that the original was too hard...
