WispFollower #1 Posted October 28, 2012 Hello, I was hoping someone might be able to help me learn more about some accessories I have. First, I was wondering about two Suncom controllers which I believe are called joy sensors. I have two- one black and one silver. What is the purpose of these? Are they fun to use? Any value? Next, I have all different variations on what seem to be similar cables. Wico and a couple other brands, all.new. Some are plastic bags with cardboard tops. Some are cardboard boxes. They are y cables for plugging two controllers into one port. I think one group of packages said Questar..? Does anyone need these? Any value or rarity? Lastly, I'm wondering if there is any possible way to use an Atari Accuball or Trakball on Colecovision. I realize I will probably just need to get a roller controller, but I thought I would ask. Thanks!
Pixelboy #2 Posted October 28, 2012 First, I was wondering about two Suncom controllers which I believe are called joy sensors. I have two- one black and one silver. What is the purpose of these? Are they fun to use? Any value? The "touch disc", as I like to call it, works pretty well, but what totally destroys the JoySensor is the position of the fire buttons, which are also "touch" buttons like the keypad keys. To use this controller adequately, you need three hands: One hand to hold it, one hand to press directions on the touch disc, and another hand to press the fire buttons located at the top. Since I'm a regular human, I only have two hands, so I cannot use it without getting cramps within a few seconds of use. This controller would have been fun if the fire buttons had been put on the sides, like the Intellivision controllers. Pictures, my friend. We need pictures. Lastly, I'm wondering if there is any possible way to use an Atari Accuball or Trakball on Colecovision. I realize I will probably just need to get a roller controller, but I thought I would ask. Only the Roller Controller works on the CV.
+5-11under #3 Posted October 28, 2012 If you have a Questar arcade joystick, it's worth a fair chunk of change.
NIAD #4 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) The only Suncom Joy-Sensor that I know was made for the ColecoVision is the black version and I would have to assume that the silver version was made for another system. Does the silver version have the same DB9 connector, the same amount of firebuttons and a keypad. As far as actually playing games with one, what PixelBoy said really sums it up except that you could get good use out of it for games that don't use the firebuttons... like Pac-Man, etc. The Y-Cables are nice to have especially if you have only one really great controller like CollectorVision's Arcade Quality Controller. Seeing as only 30 were made and the price was up there, I doubt that there are many people with two of these beauties and if someone does have two, then one of them probably is stored away in it's box waiting for the day to sell it and make big bucks. Anyway, at least with the Y-Cable, if you are playing a two player game, one person won't have the advantage of using a better controller. As far as the other cables, pics please. The CV Roller Controller is easy enough to acquire, loose or CIB, but going the eBay route might yield a poorly functioning controller so try to find one from a trusted seller like Yurkie or A2600.com that will stand behind their sale. NIAD #7 Posted October 29, 2012 The Wico 6' extension cables come in very handy with the original Coleco controller coiled cable so that you can sit further back from the console, so I would keep one or two of those. It looks like the silver version of the Joy-Sensor is for the 2600... I guess.
