jc78_2005 #4 Posted November 1, 2012 I think excitebike has better gameplay can you give examples? control? speed?
1980gamer #5 Posted November 1, 2012 Motocross is very similar to Auto Racing. The speed is not great, however it has an interesting 3D effect, important for gauging jumping distances etc. You can make your own courses etc. It has both steering option of the 2 auto racing releases as a selectable option. It is not forgiving like auto racing, if you leave the track, you crash! The traction and arch of the jumping bike seems pretty good. 2 player mode does not restart the race when 1 player gets ahead, it pauses the lead players clock until the 2nd player catches up. This would have made auto racing a lot more fun! Motor sound is huge! Making certain jumps requires MAX speed, You can floor it, but not be at max speed and you will land on an uphill and crash. I always liked auto racing as a kid, so for me, motocross was just an extention of that game. In 1980 we got an Intellivision with Auto Racing, Space Battle and MLB and of course Poker & Blackjack ( didn't play that for years! ) Later we got, NFL, Tennis, Soccer, Astrosmash, Space Armada, Sub Hunt, Triple Action, Horse Racing. Those were it for a long time. Then one day I was at the mall and every cart was 99 cents in the KB Toy store. I got about 30 new games that day. Expecting to get 1. What a bummer as it turned out... The Crash had hit... No New Games Wish I was older than 12, I could have bought doubles of everthing to save as MINT in the box... No wait, then I would be older now, never mind. 1980gamer
DZ-Jay #6 Posted November 1, 2012 I played it this past weekend (how's that for coincidences?). I don't know Excite Bike, so I can't compare, but Motocross is good. It reminds me of one of my favorite C=64 games of all time: Racing Destruction Set. The physics and controls feels very similar. In fact, I read recently that they were made by the same guy, and that the physics simulations he made for Motocross were the basis for Racing Destruction Set (another coinkidinky! two-for-two!!) However, I suggest playing it with a friend. Like Auto Racing, it gets rather boring just going around in circles. There is a computer player, but it's not as interesting as having someone to taunt and kid. -dZ.

IntellivisionDude #8 Posted November 1, 2012 When i was a kid i thought Motocross was awesome. I would of ranked it highly. But not sure it's aged well. I couldn't get even close to the same excitement when i finally played it again recently. But for it's time it was great. Always loved the level editor. The steering is hit and miss. I think steering on Auto Racing may be better. I just wish you could jump farther.
