Thelen
I'm searching for some games which have top view graphics with walls, trees, houses doors and other GFX objects to inspire me to make some good top view gfx for the A8.... Who has some good game recommendations ? Thanks ! Edited November 4, 2012 by Thelen

TMR
The Last V8 and Red Max are both top view, with the latter being the better looking of the two.
venom4728a
I think the first Grand Theft Auto and Driver games were top down view. Those would be pretty cool Robert
mimo
Spy hunter, river raid ? Moving away from the xl, how about cannon fodder? Maybe a bit too 3D? Failsafe on the 7800 is pretty cool (a homebrew by pac man plus) http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/154189-failsafe-7800-wip/ http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=YHxOdyHpnDg&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DYHxOdyHpnDg&gl=GB Edited November 4, 2012 by mimo
José Pereira
Have a look at NES games, there's plenty of them with Top view gfxs being Zelda the best well known. Here you can find NES games and with Maps: http://vgmaps.com/Atlas/index.htm#NES Also here you have NES and other systems with lots of gfxs but also sprites frames: http://spriters-resource.com/ that you can simply transfer them into chars/cells/tiles using this program: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://img.brothersoft.com/screenshots/softimage/t/tile_extractor-246737-1244771992.jpeg&imgrefurl=http://games.brothersoft.com/tile-extractor.html&usg=__ywm7bT4kTnRHtvR3z9SmtQpZbQg=&h=512&w=646&sz=87&hl=pt&start=1&zoom=1&tbnid=26MBoZB2ot3pqM:&tbnh=109&tbnw=137&ei=5q2XUJuWGojjtQaF_4HgBA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dgame%2Btiles%2Bextractor%26hl%3Dpt%26sa%3DG%26gbv%3D2%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1 (you can select any size tile you want, even Hi-Resolution same gfx but with diferent colour (like ZX Spectrum beeing the same char/tile)) Most of the times NES gfxs are good to convert because they use 3colours per each 8x8 Hi-Resolution pixels cell more the common all screen one colour (like our A8 Background Register colour). Then you have to translate the Hi-Resolution 1x1 into our 3+1colour cells colour clocks ratio horizontal '2x' but that's fine. You have many possible solutions for that: 1.)- Most of the times if you enlarge horizontal 8pixels of NES into 8 of our 2x1 pixels but still have the 8pixels scanlines per each cell you get 2bytes in A8 (A8 Bitmap Mode GR.15 or Char Mode GR.12) For games like Zelda with Trees, Rivers, Walkways, Walls,... the gfxs doesn't seem, most of the times, too 'fat' 2.)- The same as before but also enlarge '2x' them vertical and then you get the same looking as NES but 2x2 (like Bitmap Mode GR.7 or Char Mode GR.13) 3.)- Respect the same size as NES. Their 8x8 cells have to be 'squeezed' into A8 3+1colour cell 2x1 ratio (our cell 4colour clock pixels). This can be, sometimes good looking, just using direct conversion with, for example, Windows PAINT program (or if you're a good Artist, probably some small pixels re-arranjement...). Hope this can help you. Edited November 5, 2012 by José Pereira
José Pereira
Of ocurse that in VGMaps main page you can also find many gamesd from allmost all systems (even C64 2x1ratio Multicolour): http://vgmaps.com/ but I don't remember right now if any Top view are there, NES I know they have because there's lots of NES games as Top view because of NES sucess of Zelda. adam242
I always liked Getaway! from APX. The graphics aren't the most stunning, but well rendered. And the gameplay is a lot of fun.
