san-d-2000 #1 Posted November 15, 2012 Hi, I just bought a French Atari 7800 ( the one with rgb scart ), unfortunately the picture keeps flashing on my Sony Bravia Flatscreen, and the colours look flushed out (black is gray), even when the console is switched off the screen is gray instead of black, so it might be the cable? It Seems to work fine on my old tv in the bedroom. Any ideas how to get it working on my Sony?
Rastignac #2 Posted November 15, 2012 Most modern TVs has problem with old scart consoles. (What a pitty). Some can roll, some can flash, some display nothing, some are just good without a problem. One guy told me about his similar problem years ago. (Was it a guy with a NeoGeo ?). He added some capacitors inside the scart, to reduce the signal going from the console to the TV. The signal was "too strong", and the TV was going crazy. By reducing it a bit, the TV keeps calm and the picture was perfect (I'll try to find more details about that). GM1982 #5 Posted December 10, 2012 I have several French Atari 7800, and also a Sony Bravia TV, and they all work perfectly together.
mimo #6 Posted December 10, 2012 I have a couple they dont work on my samsung or lg lcd tvs or my lg plasma. Looks great on my sony trinitron crt and my commodore 1084 s though. Its more a problem with modern tvs than the console.
Mr SQL #7 Posted December 10, 2012 it's probably suffering from ennui LOL Raskar! Sounds like this 7800 has too much sang-froid Perhaps put a small resistor inline with the video signal or better yet a rheostat (adjustable one) to tone it down to spec. OBO #8 Posted December 10, 2012 No, you won't get me to post in this topic to rant about Foreigners mocking the French Language. More seriously, the scart output of the 7800 is not standard, and YMMV on most modern tv. A good old CRT is the way to go.

OBO #10 Posted December 10, 2012 As stated on many French Atari forums, the signal output from the SCART of the 7800 is not standard. Something like a strange Vsync signal, I'm not a technical guy anyway. Basically on most modern TV, the display will flicker or jump. Same with SCART equipped atari STs and Falcons. Some tech infos here (it's for STs/Falcon, but it's the same for the 7800) : http://www.yaronet.com/posts.php?sl=&s=144669&p=3&h=60#

san-d-2000 #13 Posted December 11, 2012 I read somewhere you can make a custom scart cable with resistors which compensates for the strange outputs of the Atari. If only i knew where to buy one of these custom cables...
Rastignac #14 Posted December 12, 2012 One link about "Jaguar and Péritel": http://bx.yaronet.com/posts.php?s=147359 "ZeroSquare" said: cut the wire of the #16 scart pin, cut the wire of the #8 scart pin, solder a 220 omhs resistor (red red brown gold) to the cut #8 wire, solder the other end of the resistor to the #16 pin of the scart. (Someone needs to test that).
