fdurso224 #1 Posted November 22, 2012 Hi Guys, How's the Wii U sales been doing in the past few days? Did this system make record breaking numbers compared to the Wii? I see quite a few in GameStop and K-Mart in my area that are still avalible! Anthony....

Mord #3 Posted November 22, 2012 (edited) Supposedly they're sold out. Although I guess that means Nintendo has none left to sell to stores. I did see some units at the Walmart near me yesterday but as to how long those will be in stock is anybody's guess. Of course these days I think console makers deliberately underestimate the demand just so they can claim they're sold out. +save2600 #4 Posted November 22, 2012 Yeah, I'm starting to see Wii U's all over the place now. Yesterday, Wal-Mart had about 6 basic units, Target had several of both and Best Buy had more Deluxe units than any other retailer I've seen yet! I'm sure they'll all be sold out *again*, especially the closer we get to Christmas, but for now, doesn't seem to be that tough to get one.

S1500 #6 Posted November 22, 2012 Might be too soon to tell. You would need absolute numbers. # of units in stock at any one given place doesn't say much: 1. Store X with 3 in stock, 3 sold = sold out. Success! 2. Store X with 100 in stock, 10 sold = still available. Fail?
King_Salamon #7 Posted November 23, 2012 Pretty sure the white units will become a shelf warmer once people realize the difference between the two. I'm toying with the idea of picking one up but not serious yet. Perhaps I'll stick to the portables and get A ps vita.

It's an option... but not really.
xg4bx #9 Posted November 23, 2012 From what I've read, I dont know how true it is, but supposedly the U is selling at a faster rate than the Wii.

Hyper_Eye #11 Posted November 25, 2012 Yeah I'd like to know that as well. One of two things happened during this release... Nintendo either produced enough systems to meet most of the demand or there isn't as much demand. The Wii was scarce for a long time. I have seen black Wii U's in multiple places this evening and I was not looking for it at all. In each case I never even noticed them until store employees pointed to them to note they were in stock. You could have gone to every single store in the city the afternoon of or the day after black Friday and you would not have found a single Wii after it was released. I don't question that sales are good but I'd like to see something that isn't anecdotal.
Andromeda Stardust #12 Posted November 25, 2012 Guys, just wait until January 1st. There will hopefully be pleanty for everyone after the holidays. Even when the Wii was sold out for a year, it was still relatively easy to get one any time in 2007 with a little bit of diligence. Just talk to the manager at the electronics/games department and find out when the next shipment comes in, and be there at the store the day it arrives. I had a Wii-U preordered but my mom bought it for me as a Christmas gift, so I won't be able to open it until December 25th...
fdurso224 #13 Posted November 25, 2012 Hi guys, Yeah, all my local GameStops, Toys R Us, K-Mart, and Target have both versions of the Wii U! When I went to the K-Mart & Target, they said that not a lot of guest were buying them and were going more towards Halo 4 and Black Ops 2. Anthony... moycon #14 Posted November 25, 2012 We're heading out later today. I'll check around and see how the stock is in my local area. Stopped by Target, they had one Basic unit in the case. Wal Mart had two Basics and a Deluxe. Black Friday didn't wipe out the supply around here, although, you have to assume there were more Wii U available than original Wii's (wouldn't you?) Might be outselling the Wii if that is true, because there were like NO Wii's around at this time the year the Wii launched. I only got one because I bought a $500 bundle. GKC #16 Posted November 27, 2012 (edited) I believe that's better than the 360 and PS3 did at their launch. Fell short of the wii though. Over all 1.2 mil pieces of hardware sold by Nintendo. They have to be happy with that. I think Sony sold 4 Vitas this past week Edited November 27, 2012 by GKC
rxd #17 Posted November 27, 2012 I was shocked to read that the 360 sold 750,000 units this past holiday weekend...
onlysublime #18 Posted November 27, 2012 how is that shocking? Black Friday weekend had sales of 960,000 Xbox 360's in the US in 2011. Even 800,000 in a 24-hour window last year. heck, they sold 750,000 kinects during last year's black friday. I think this year's numbers show sales declining because a lot of gamers are anticipating next's year's releases and are holding back. In 2010, they sold 1.075 million 360's but that was for the entire month of November. No sales figures released for just the BF weekend.
JamesD #19 Posted November 27, 2012 I think long term sales are more important. You'll have initial demand of hundreds of thousands just for the Nintendo fans. That doesn't really determine success of the console. I can't say I'm impressed with the specs of the machine, it's more current gen than next gen. But then that didn't hurt the Wii.
