candle
Larry: it should be easy to reuse one of U1MB OS slots for this, and yes, you can, but only with U1MB working in tandem (SIDE working in true PBI mode) - in fact, any dos - even DOS 3.0 if you feel fancy
Marius
Excuse my ignorance. I'm new on atari 8bit. Recently I have my first 130XE. With which flash cartridge I can load any *. ROM (any size) dump? My intention is to load a 128k *.ROM. That is not so easily possible, since there do exist several ways of bankswitching. But... of most (if not all) games there do also exist disk-versions, and even better: executable files (the .XEX, .COM, .EXE etc.) Those are my favorites. You could drop these executables on your SIDE or MyIDE and there you go. This works also with SIC carts or (slower) ATR based devices. flashjazzcat
side: -no support for ATR files at all without additional hardware installed (Ultimate1MB) Not strictly true, once I get the SDX drivers with ATR support uploaded (again, dependent on getting the API completed). Soft-drivers will allow full ATR read/write support under SDX without U1MB, but disk images will not be bootable there. Yes, it seems to me we need to be careful using software written for SIDE but which also happens to be MyIDE compatible as part of MyIDE-II's feature list. On the other hand, were it not for the original MyIDE and Kyle Dain's efforts at writing an SDX driver, the MyIDE driver for SDX wouldn't have happened, and (as far as I can deduce) SIDE might not have happened either, or at least not via the exact same sequence of events and circumstances. And on yet another hand, the appearance of SIDE seems to have spurred on MyIDE development, so it's all good. I'm sure the end-users are quite capable of evaluating the usability of the products once they have them in their hands, at which point the advertising blurb which went before becomes pretty academic. I'm glad Candle came here and once again reiterated how SIDE employs the FAT32 partition, either in conjunction with U1MB or the (forthcoming) soft driver, since I get the feeling not everyone's clear about it. I understand that MyIDE-II will let Atari partitions (in which ever partitioning scheme is used) co-exist alongside a FAT32 partition, but it doesn't actually utilise the FAT area in any way, shape or form (unless used with Candle's XEX loader). Marius
I must add to this, that for me (personally) there was no need to go to MyIDE ][ ... the benefit (for me) of the First edition of myide (the one without the flash part) is that you can build it yourself with only a couple of TTL components or a GAL and some wire. With the timing fix, this is just a great device, wich I keep using for a long time. I have been using a lot different devices and interfaces, but for me this is the very best alternative. This newer MyIDE ][ is a fabulous upgrade, and has some great options. Ofcourse I 'want' a MyIDE ][ but that is just for the 'have' ... I stick with MyIDE I for now... I like the idea that even I can fix them myself in case something might get hurt.
