segagamer99 #1 Posted November 25, 2012 Hey everyone, I'm thinking about buying a Virtual Boy. It sounds really cool, but the only problem is that there is no head strap for it. Is there anyone here that can make a custom VB head strap, or know what the best way to make one is? Thanks.

nukeshed #4 Posted November 26, 2012 Something that can be done more than once, please? It's easier the second time, without the hair.
monzamess #5 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) I made custom head-mounted displays in a past life but not with the VB. I recommend starting with an adjustable head strap like you find in welder's helmets or medical gear, for example: http://www.discounts...adgear-370.html . Then you need to find or fabricate brackets to mount the VB. You could maybe use parts of the VB stand to hold the VB itself. You also would want some counterweight on the rear or else you'll get neck strain. Edited November 26, 2012 by monzamess
Reaperman #6 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) Why not buy one first, and see if you still want the strap? My guess is that you won't. The best way to make one is to realize that it shouldn't have one. But if I were making one, I'd try adhesive velcro on both sides of the unit and one piece on the center front surface. Velcro an elastic strap to both sides, around the back of my head, and velcro another strap to the front, over the top of my head connected to the center of the horizontal strap. I might even be tempted to use two horizontal straps (one low one high) Of course it's still a terrible idea, that will cause wear on the VB's foam hood, and face-related pain. ls650 #7 Posted November 26, 2012 I owned a VB for a year or two. I actually liked the system, but honestly, hanging several pounds off your forehead is going to give you neckstrain.

segagamer99 #9 Posted November 26, 2012 check out the Virtual Reality Victormaxx episode on the angry video game nerd. Here is a picture. www.thevideogamecollector.com I've seen a head strap that uses a Victormaxx similar to that. It's a fine idea, but I wouldn't want to destroy expensive and rare electronics just to make a head strap.
Lentzquest #10 Posted November 27, 2012 Really I find it's best to play laying down on your back with the VB laying pretty much on your face, and the stand on your chest. It's comfortable enough and relaxing. No other game system quite like it. A head strap is a horrible idea unless you're Keith Apicary.

Lentzquest #12 Posted November 27, 2012 I saw that video. It was pretty funny, but pretty mean of him to make a mess in so many stores. yeah, he's broke it out in several videos. The best is when he used it for shades to go on a date, and when he gets the AVGN to put it on at an expo. But on a serious note, it's a bad idea for practical reasons. It's too heavy to have hanging on the front of your head. Any strap would have to have equal counterweight on the back to help balance it out. If one was serious about mounting this on their head, I would go all out and buy a modular motorcycle helmet and mod it to mount the VB in place of the flip face, starting with something like this...
