yllawwally #1 Posted November 27, 2012 What are the best exclusive 2600 games? Games that came out in the 2600 lifespan. I always liked Haunted House, and I don't believe it was a port of anything or ported to any other machine during the 2600 lifetime.
Statichamster #2 Posted November 27, 2012 Solaris. It was sort of a sequel to Star Raiders and came out late in the Atari's lifespan so a lot of people missed it.
Lentzquest #3 Posted November 27, 2012 I really want to say Defender. I know it was an arcade game and subsequently ported to everything under the sun, but the 2600 version was an entirely new game. Defender in name only. The same can be said about a ton of 2600 ports; Space invaders, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, etc. That makes defining exclusives for the system very tough. If that kind of stuff is considered cheating then I'd go with Journey Escape and Frankenstein's Monster.
+Cafeman #4 Posted November 27, 2012 Yeah, Defender etc are not 'excusive' games, even though the 2600 port is different from the other ports. My first pick would be Enduro. It's already at the top of my favorite 2600 games list, and it is exclusive to the 2600. It is actually the best Atari-system racer IMHO. The challenge of getting past day 7 ... well , it's A CHALLENGE! But so rewarding when you pass your last car just as the new day dawns. 2nd choice would be Robot Tank. Enduro is great - but not 2600 exclusive- This game was also released for the ZX Spectrum... Lentzquest #6 Posted November 27, 2012 Jawbreaker is one of the best too in my opinion. Seriously underrated.
Mister VCS #7 Posted November 27, 2012 Jawbreaker is one of the best too in my opinion. Seriously underrated. Jawbreaker was released for the Commodore 64, Apple II and Atari 8-bit computer-line (besides the 2600) - and I never liked Jawbreaker...
BassGuitari #8 Posted November 27, 2012 I really like the early games, which were mostly ports of Atari's mid-late '70s arcade lineup. Although other systems got some version or interpretation of most of these, I consider them exclusive. Otherwise: Radar Lock Secret Quest Solaris Gravitar Private Eye (Activision) Cosmic Commuter (Activision) Subterranea (Imagic) Stellar Track (Sears/Atari) Air Raiders (M Network) Fantastic Voyage (Fox) Alien (Fox) Tunnel Runner (CBS) And probably others I can't think of right now. SoulBlazer #9 Posted November 27, 2012 How about Yar's Revenge? It was 'inspired' by Star Castle, but it's defentily a original game.

shadow460 #11 Posted November 28, 2012 Escape from the MindMaster is awesome...but it's only exclusive if you don't count the unreleased ColecoVision prototype.
+thegoldenband #12 Posted November 28, 2012 I'm surprised no one has mentioned Adventure!
yllawwally #13 Posted November 28, 2012 I guess I just assumed they had ported adventure to something else. Quadrun I thought was an arcade port. Didn't fatal run get ported to the 7800?
+Cafeman #14 Posted November 28, 2012 After refreshing my memory from the above list, here are my five favorite exclusive games on the Atari 2600. I haven't played a lot of those, however. 1. Adventure (c'mon! of course yes!) 2. Haunted House (fond memories of this) 3. Robot Tank (I always play it when I hook up the system) 4. Stampede ( I have come to regard this game as a true classic as the years go by) 5. Frostbite (fun Q-bert style game. Plus it has a great BEAR). Schizophretard #18 Posted November 29, 2012 I think the definition of the word exclusive used in this thread is too exclusive. This definition excludes Warlords.
Lentzquest #19 Posted November 29, 2012 I think the definition of the word exclusive used in this thread is too exclusive. This definition excludes Warlords. I agree, especially if you include Atari anthologies and greatest hits like the ones released for modern consoles and the Nintendo DS. Plus there's the Atari flashback consoles. The 2600 has very few good games left that are truly exclusive to it if people want to split hairs.

Plus there's the Atari flashback consoles. The 2600 has very few good games left that are truly exclusive to it if people want to split hairs. And it doesn't make sense to subtract arcade ports that were first released on the VCS before other consoles and games that were first released on the VCS but were so great that they were ported to other consoles. Those should count. The only games that shouldn't count are arcade ports that weren't first ported to the VCS and games that were ported to the VCS from other home consoles(excluding the Colecovision and Intellivision because them making their machines "sideways" compatible makes their machines VCS machines). yllawwally #21 Posted November 29, 2012 The flashback and anthologies don't count against the exclusive game because they were made after the 2600's lifetime.
